I guess it's back to the drawing board....
The mods need a function to delete a user and all of their posts.
How'd it get past the first 5 post moderation, or was that scrapped due to too much workload for mods approving new users? Looks like they signed up 16th of this month rather than been an old account.
The admins need to make the anti-spam questions something that's not easily googled. One of my work forums we used things like 'How many letters are in <Website Name>' or 'What's the 3rd letter of <Website Name>'. We've had very few problems with spammers since then.
None of the mods have that power. It has to be Mike B I guess. I'd welcome the site having some more useful mod/admin tools too. Spam caused me to leave the site, rather than the downhill slide of any particular conversations
There are some decent mods for vBulletin that I use on my forums that have cut spam down to practically 0. If the admin is interested (or any other member that uses vBulletin for that matter) they can message or email me.
We have added a few of those mods... Time to evaluate again, I guess. Anyway, that new one is zapped.
I would recommend the time zone hack. Our forum is obviously a lot smaller than this one, but we went from about 4 dickheads a day to none in the previous several months. Instantly for two lines of PHP.
There's a good new one from https://www.keycaptcha.com where you have to construct a picture, I'm planning on adding it to my forums
What's the timezone hack?
Spambots pick the top line of every box at the sign up screen as there's no logic to doing anything else. If your DOB screen is like everyone elses, the top entry is somewhere in the Atlantic where there's no land. So check for GMT-12 or whatever it is and reject em.

Ahhh.... nice one, I use vB but same principle.
Not all spambots do that I should point out, but should keep the majority at bay.
OT: I only found out recently when I had to write a date/time parser that there are -13 and -14 country time zones but no -12
Probably not funny now but the thought of a 26 hour day amused me at the time.
Ah, so that's why I couldn't join your forum. Thanks. Thanks a LOT!
I thought we all worked a 26 hour day in this job!
Lol! Well there is that!
