It's a rumor, and I don't have any connection to the company in question, but it's perhaps of interest to given their casual connection. That and Fate was a cool game . Anyways, the rumor says that Wild Tangent recently "axed" 40 employees. That by itself doesn't give a clear picture of the future of the company, but 40 *is* a lot. Now, if it was any other company working on console or mobile games, or a UK developer , I would scoff it off as the slow demise of a company. However, they're quite involved in casual gaming, even speaking at the Casual Games Conference. They're also on Microsoft's Live Arcade partners list. I recall some conversation (or history) on how Reflexive cut the company down to a minimum before going full force in the casual gaming market, and we all know how that turned out. Same deal here perhaps? Was Fate a success? Or did Fate frown on them instead? (pun intended ) Discuss.
One of my housemates interviewed with WT a month ago--and was offered a job. He turned it down, but it seems they are hiring in some departments.
Doesn't necessarily mean anything. A company I once worked for (non-games development) once let us take a guy on 3 weeks before they closed down - and the guys that approved it knew damn well it was going to happen.
That's pretty odd. Why would they hire someone just before shutting down? There must have been some idea that the company might pull through and stay open no?
I guess there might have been - and I guess that was the point I was trying to make - just 'cos they're hiring doesn't mean they're actually stable, just means they really want to be stable.
