Most graphic artists on here will only quote if you approach them directly. I assume they'd be reluctant to put their prices on here.

I should also say that they will be charging more than the figures you have specified above. Most artists i believe tend to charge by the hour, or as a one off quote for the detailed work description you would give them.

Artist guys, correct me if i'm way off track here please.

Art can vary vastly in complexity. When you say 'sprite', how large and in how many colors? A 16x16 sprite is in a whole different order of difficulty than a 96x96 or bigger. Animation - well, how many frames? How many directions?

Sure, I've gotten a sprite animated for $10 once, but I knew the guy, I provided the static sprite, and I only wanted a few frames animated of a not-very-big character. In almost any other case, you're going to be paying more than that. :)

Tom and I are now looking for website work in addition to high end graphics, 2D graphics and more.

Tom is a veteran of the advertising industry and has designed many logos for banks, companies and big name brands as well as marketing campaigns. He has been doing this for some 15 years.

I have been working closer to 10 years and between us we think we can handle any graphics you like. For example a full flash website from any company is usually £500 per page. Our rates are closer to £300-£500 per SITE, optionally WITH domain and hosting thrown in! This is for a fully animated high end experience.

Could be a lot cheaper for simpler work.

Graphics? about $100 per logo, sometimes more if a lot more work is required, for example custom painted designs. Tom does all his stuff for print and press-ready so you'd just head down to the printers and it'd come out the same. Thats professional at amateur prices.

Graphics? a custom texture will set you back between $50 to $100, again sometimes more. I don't mind revealing my prices. There's no size limit on that but it is custom so it really comes under logos.

How about models? Well this is where negotiation begins because a simple triangle is free, but a high poly photo realistic woman model (yes we can do those) will cost much more. Overall, I welcome any PM's for people wanting graphics or websites, and it never hurts to ask.

Tom and I have nearly 30 years on-the-job experience between us in real life, so you will get what you ask for and then some. I do not believe in agencies or those terrible graphic design companies that charge fixed prices for rubbish. I have seen them rip people like Alex off by giving him logos other people already have!

it's a minefield out there and I can see why a lot of programmers are reluctant to outsource work. Another thing: we accept payment when you are happy, so there is no money up front. Obviously you will need to be serious when you apply for work to be done :)

You will usually pay between $10 and $50 per hour, and a basic 1 frame sprite of say 128x128 would probably take between 1 and 6 hours.

For for 1 128x128 character sprite you could pay between $10 and $300. So it will vary greatly depending on the artist. All you can do is have a look around and ask for quotes.

I actually model most graphics and render out using a world class renderer called final render. This was one of our more expensive purchases but the quality shows.

When you have a rendered image, it often costs the same as pixelled work because it's really based on time taken to do the work. Often like logos, we discount them because of high demand (there's more in this line of work).

Please don't feel you have to spend more or less depending on the style of work - that is the first sign something is not quite right. It should cost a good, reasonable amount despite the content. The more work to do, the more you pay (you get what you pay for).

So if someone came to me and said oh I'm charging you more because it's pixel work, then I'd be a little bit puzzled!

I too would be scared if someone charged more for pixel work :)

Artist's rates can also vary based on how quickly you want the job done. If you want something done in a very short period of time, some artists will bump up the price.

I'd actually expect to pay more for pixel work if it's good quality. There lot's of artists around that can model and render up something but there's far fewer who can do high quality pixel work.

Approx UK£10 to UK£12/hour for 'anything' these days.

    Cheers,

    Adrian.
