Hi, I've got an idea for a game, and would like to use some old logos, such as the Commodore C=, the Dragon Data dragon, the Acorn... erm... acorn, etc. Basically 8 bit computer logos. Are these still protected? Since they haven't been made in decades, I really don't know. Any ideas? Thanks in advance, John.
I think it's illegal. You can consult the USPTO for the USA to search trademarks. Usually, a logo belongs to a company. There are times when you can use a trademark without the consent of the owner. For example, in journalism, to cover the news. If you want to use a protected logo to help selling your product, most of the time it requires permission from the owner. You should be able to trace the origin of the logo and find the owner to seek permission or learn about the use of the logo.
OK, thanks for taking the time to reply. Guess I'll have to come up with another theme, just to play safe... not a major problem.
