Indeed, the place will end up like the TIGsource forums and useless to anybody with any hopes of enlightened discussion.

Who is the 'man behind the curtain' here, anyway? I've been lurking here for several years now, but I don't remember seeing a lot of administrative posts. So who is it that's adding features?

The forums were down a while ago because the web host updated something which broke the old version of the forum software. Fix was to install latest version, which also introduced new features like the tags.

Agreed. I don't think they're adding much of value.

Another vote for disabling tags - I feel they clutter up the screen, without adding any value (I don't bother reading them).

Can't even see 'em, so they might as well not be there.

Having just spotted some of the snide comments which are being "tagged" on (presumably) with the benefit of anonymity, I'd have to say that tags are going to do more harm than good unless they're either removed or improved. If it's possible to restrict them to just the original poster - as BadSector suggests - that would be sufficient, I think. Otherwise, disabled would be better as far as I'm concerned or we're going to make this place even more unfriendly to newcomers and beginners.

Yes, please get rid of the tags, it's degenerating to TIGsource levels.

It's been going that way for a long time, I think, and the tags just highlights this. I don't think it's very clear at all anymore who this site is meant for.

I agree that we should get rid of the tags. But who are around to do those types of improvements to the site? And, does those persons have the time?

    :)

Yeh, vbulletin had awfully way to show tags. If the tags would be shown using much smaller font (would require template modification) like 8-10px arial, with "more white" font... and if number of tags would be somehow restricted (not sure if that's even possible in vbulletin by the way) then *perhaps* they could be tolerable.

If not... then tags indeed should go. Now they make threads look like trash :)

ah, youre talking about the new comment thingies that showed up on the right of the post name... in that case, I'm with you on that. Just another bit thats broken.

BTW: I've no idea if we have an active owner around with proper admin access, us mods are basically spam filters :) nothing more. Will see if we cant gee up someone.
