    Hey,

Before reading this massive post, please take a look at our Demo Trailer!

If you are a 2d pixel-artist looking to join a project where your creative input matters, why not join Rifthoppers? Rifthoppers is an action roguelike inspired by The Binding of Isaac’s brilliant item upgrade system. The game features a high-action, story-rich, single-player mystery, as you first explore various environments and fight tense boss fights. Then, between the chapters of the story, you can revisit those environments and battles and beat more challenging versions of them together with your friends through both local and online co-op.

We are a team of four, developing Rifthoppers in Unity and using GitHub for version control.

    • You’ll be able to help design the Game's Enemies and Bosses together with our composer and programmers. If you can draw it, we can make it come to life.

    • The same applies to the various Alien Worlds that are hidden within the Rift. You’ll be designing several areas (400x400px layered sprites) for the player to get immersed in.

    • Outside of those worlds is the professor’s laboratory, where a large segment of The Game's Story takes place. In addition to the art for the lab, we’re also looking for your input on both story and worldbuilding.

    • And finally, the Item Upgrades. The game’s countless upgrade synergies are what makes it so addictive and replayable. Because of the built-in local and online co-op, there’s a whole new creative dimension to upgrade interaction between players. Come share your ideas!
Rifthoppers is set in a dystopian sci-fi / cyberpunk 21XX. You play as Bear, an ex-soldier turned mercenary. You have been hired by a professor who is performing research into Rift-technology. The Professor wants you to enter the Rift so that he can collect data for his research. However, once you arrive, you realize that you are not alone. Equipped with an energy blaster, you are to fight wave after wave, no questions asked. Exactly the type of person the Professor was looking for. No qualms from you. You're happy to do whatever it takes to get yourself a first-class ticket off this planet.

We have a tight grip on the scope of the project and are therefore looking for multiple artists. If you’re interested in joining us, please contact us in our Discord or send us a message. If you have a portfolio or any other way to show off your art, we’d love to take a look.

    Thank you for reading!
