Protip: always argue with Tolik.
Found a typo in my notes:
Switching from full-screen to weird usability.
Totally unplayable on notebook due to control scheme.
Switching from full-screen to windowed crashes the game.
Totally unplayable no notebook due to control scheme and weird usability.
(probably had a bad copy-paste).
I'd disagree that Revenge of Titans with such slow progression curve would resonate with Steam crowd. Make initial levels smaller (single screen), add a building block mission ever 4 missions or so (call it corridor defense), progressively increase screen size and it'll be awesome.
I tried small screens for the first 5 levels and it didn't seem to work out right. Maybe I'll have another go. At least, we've got a starting point that I can measure conversion rate <-> tweaks now.
Not sure what your display changing problems are - not yet seen anywhere else. If you've got the time a more detailed spec of your system might help the LWJGL team.
Actually it crashes for me during any resolution switch - including from small to larger window.
Ah. Maybe there's a crash log? (I suspect not) - check in the Program Files\RevengeOfTheTitans dir, or in <user home>\RevengeOfTheTitans
Somewhere in lwjgl then...
no problems at all here - macbook with geforce card.
pretty sure if you were on the iphone you'd clean up, cas Imagine this game on an ipad, you know... I'd buy an ipad for it lol
I just tried again, and it still crashes for me when I try to place the first refinery in level 2. I'm dropping it just to the upper right of the ore deposit. This bug is very repeatable for me.
I just submitted the err.log via the contact form on your web site.
Nice one Looks like an unexpected OpenAL problem. This is annoying, because unlike the Windows and Linux versions, we've got no control over the OpenAL found on Macs, so if it behaves in funny ways, we're screwed. I sent you an email (from my gmail account).
How good would you say OpenAL is? I'm thinking of using it for my game.
I'm using it on iPhone right now, but looking forward to removing it.
It's... quirky. Reliable under Windows and Linux with OpenAL-Soft (which we use). MacOS is unknown territory. API's quite simple. Not so easy to do complicated things like, er, streaming oggs.
Works fine on my Macmini Cas, running Snow Leopard. You should deffo look at doing iPhone and iPad versions!
Best of luck getting it on Steam too!
Congrats on the (near) release! Love the sounds and the trademark graphics.
On the first level, I placed my turrets and the timer indicated enemies were coming but nothing happened for ages (I was getting bored), then my turrets started shooting and killing aliens of the top of the screen. It took me little while to realise the screen scrolled! On the second level I think it auto-scrolled down to the bottom for me. It should do that on the first, or have no scrolling.
- I realise the first few levels are training but they seemed a little slow paced.
- I was looking for a way to sell turrets.
That's it for now.
I'd say go Android first (it's already written in Java anyway).
Must put in a huge and prominent tip for everyone:
HOLD DOWN FAST FORWARD WHEN NOTHING'S GOING ON!!
(right hand side HUD, shortcut key TAB)
I found the game to be extremely addictive. The art, audio and gameplay match very nicely.
One thing that I too would like to point out is the lacking of a sell unit function. Of course this may have been left out on purpose but there were numerous occasions where I would have loved to be able to sell a building and use the funds gained to build something else.
Another thing is that the screen scrolling seems a bit fast/abrupt, you should look into decreasing the scrolling speed a bit when the cursor is AT the edge.
Other than that a splendid beta, very enjoyable and very addictive.
I found that key just fine. My problem was when things were going too fast, I'd have killed for a pause button.
You need to use those Freeze powerups you've hoarded! Or the smartbombs, or bezerks, or shields.
If you dont run the install as administrator on windows 7 it dies on trying to install OpenAL.
