    1. Make a million dollars.
    2. Buy my own private island some where in the south pacific.
    3. Marry a really hot lingerie model.
    4. Retire.

Hopefully I will release my first casual game and update my website (finally) as well. Since it's a god-game I am working on, I pretty much started researching the topic in last few months (of 2008) and prepared a playable prototype already, getting it all ready for ACTUAL development in 2009 (I am the only person working on 'everything').

Good luck with your goals everyone (and Uhfgood marrying that lingerie model :p )

Have my 2nd shareware game in a state so that it can be shown to fellow indies for feedback (same goal as 2008).
    Completely not achieved.

In short 4 words in 2009 I will:

    FINISH WHAT I STARTED!

    (in 2008)

Yeah, that will give me plenty of work :D

Hopefully in 2009 we will finish all portal-targeted stuff and will focus only on our own stuff (GUNROX mainly).

    In 2009 I will.

    - Continue losing a butt load of money in stock market and real estate.
    - Lose my hot lingerie model wife to a local islander stud.
    - Lose my private island to foreclosure.
    - Get my butt back to work.

Set expectations low so they're easy to beat right?

I found listing my goals (in public like this) extremely helpful last year - surprisingly so. So this year I'll join in again!

I found that the list of goals I listed here stayed in my mind throughout the year. It really helped me keep my focus.

Anyways here are the 2008 results:

    1. Release at least 4 casual games. (In the years 2005, 2006 and 2007 we managed only 1 per year.)
We released 2 downloadable casual games. The third one is so very nearly finished that I'll count it as 3. We also released a flash game so you could call that 4 :D.

    2. At least 2 of those games appear in at least 2 portal's top ten each.
Yes, Doggie Dash and First Class Flurry were on lots of top 10s.

    3. Finish and go live the new viquagames.com moving Alexa rank to under 300,000.
    At 326,806 now, pretty satisfied.

    4. Make at least X profit. (X is confidential)
    Yes

    5. Go live first web 2.0 business (non games related) and make profit from it.
Not yet, didn't have enough time

    6. Do Y. (Y is confidential)
    Y = get married. Now scheduled for 2009 :)

    Now for 2009:

    1. Get married.
    2. Create enough real passive income so that even if we don't begin any new projects in 2010 the company will still be profitable.
    3. Launch/promote new games website, achieve Alexa rank under 59,999 by end of year.
    4. Launch at least 2 [censored type of] games with at least 1 of those [reaching censored success metric] (sorry for that)
    5. Go live first web 2.0 business (non games related) and make profit from it.
    6. Release 2 casual downloadable games. At least one of those should hit top 3 across the largest portals.
    7. Make at least X*2 profit. (2 times last year's profit)

Looks like its gonna be a busy year ..

I thought this would be a good place for my first post.

    For 2009:
    1) Continue to learn to program.
    2) Choose a language/platform and stick with it.
    3) Release a full simple-ish 2d game.

I'm being a bit vague because I haven't finished researching/deciding on what I'm going to do. I've got a sketchbook full of ideas, so I'm not struggling in that area - I just need to choose something and stick with it.

    In 2009, I will:

    1) Get at least a demo of my first indie game ("unnamed") finished.. if not closer to a final product.
    2) Enter the IGF10.
    3) Go to GDC09, after taking a 2-year break from it, with the goal of getting more leads for contract work.

    My goals for 2009:

    1) get the BETA(client/server for: win, linux, mac) of my game out
    2) finish the BETA testing and do a full release(big ???? on this one, been 3+ years of development with little testing besides my own)
    3) get people interested
    4) find enough income to sustain myself(have not been doing this well in 08 or 07)
    5) try to make decisions other than the hardest path(this is my first real game and its been quite a challenge)
    6) make more time for friends and family

Every time I do this I fail miserably so here's my goal: don't state any goals.

    Maybe then I'll do something.

Finish my first game: a flower-themed match-three. That gives me twelve months to get this done. And a second game if I have time.

@Richard: there's already a flower themed match-3 but it wasn't that good, so just make yours better :)

"1) Release my next game mid-late Jan"

Ah..very cool Jake! I take it this is your last official "GreyAliens" game before working exclusively on the BFG titles then? Can you give a hint at what kind of game you came up with? Looking forward to it!

Alas no hints. Well most of it was done as a contractor, but the end part has been done as an employee. It's their IP and original design and I've worked closely with John Cutter to add more to the design. The game is great fun and has a unique feel and some innovations, but there will be some naysayers (in the Dev community) no doubt. I'm sure the customers will like it though! :) Closed Beta is out next week, long weekend coming up...feels like EA ;-p
