Well, maybe he has such an income because he stays at work working instead of burning his money on holidays
get my c# dev'ing sussed release first game get frustrated yet hopeful with the lack of interest due to pitfalls of c#
Here goes: Finish my first game Earn a high respect with the game developer community Use the high respect to create a highly resourceful network Heh.. Well.. I hope that works out in 2006
Finish (and start, actually) my killer screenplay. Find/make a lot of money. Use 1 and 2 to make a kick-ass movie. Conquer the world! ...and maybe make a decent game for once.
Thanks for the wisdom and as always here's the kicker (life's always funny right?)... add one business where 40 hours is a slow work week and stir in one 6 month old baby girl and bam you've got a recipe for life = none even though you've got more money than you know what to do with. Count your blessings people, everyone here has plenty! My old goals = delete, my new goals now = Svero's, beam me up Scottie!!
My goals are: - finish my first game by the end of March - Finish my site for the game - Get setup for online sales from my site - Get setup for affiliates - Get it on the portals - Get it on and keep it on the RealArcade top 10 for at least a 6 weeks (I sooo want to be on James's spreadsheet) - Make some serious money from it I think these are realistic goals. I know everyone starts off thinking their first game will be a hit but I really am confident mine will sell. If Fizzwizzle can do it, so can mine.
My Current Goals are: Stop Procrastinating and get motivated (blogging is helping me here) Complete the current strategy title I'm working on Launch my website Develop a "community" around both the game and website Learn and apply some marketing strategies Sell at least 100 copies by the end of the year Try to finish the addon components I have in mind by the end of the year Hopefully these should be fairly attainable and the more I write about it in a public forum the more motivated I get !
I'll restate these here since this'll be the thread to get dug up next year... Goals for '06: Start a company Build a website for it Finish our first game and make at least two more inside the year Submit to Slamdance and IGF '06 (nominations are a bonus!) Move towards (into if possible) full time status on these things Succeed in the casual games market with at least one game that ISN'T a clone of other successful casual game types. Maybe make a clone too just in case...
1. Stay employed. 2. Get a real retirement fund, and put 10% of what I earn into it. 3. Create four more forty-hour games, one per quarter. 4. Lose sixty pounds.
OK, pasted from other thread in this "clone": Aims for 2006: - Bolster my bank account with some contract programming, this will also keep the missus happy. - Release Easter Bonus and some other variations on a theme I have up my sleeve. Plan to get this on more portals. - Start using BlitzMax for new games! - Have enough free time to spend with my partner and kids and also to play a few games myself! - To go for 2nd Dan in Aikido. I'll also add on: - Have nice (short) holidays without the kids as taking them on holiday at ages 2 and 4 is frankly, hell. - Earn enough money to do up the bathrooms and other areas of the house. - Get the bloomin' garden ship shape.
Steve, how many passengers does your boat hold? My goals for 2006: - Finally finish the newest revision of Invadazoid - Finish the Bantam City Arcade site to the point where it actually MAKES money - Either start an ambitious sized game or complete a smaller sized one. - Find time to ADVERTISE!!
Well, hi! My first post here, and I figured this thread might be a good place to start. I'm working with real time embedded systems and control engineering, and I've spent several years trying to catch up and get to a point where I don't "have" to work long hours all the time - but I've finally come to my senses and realized that nothing will ever change. So, I've decided to finally start doing what I always wanted to do: Create computer games for a living. My goals for 2006: Stop giving my employer more time and energy than I get paid for Stop feeling responsible for things that are beyond my control Get my Westfield V6 ready for the road Polish my Free/Open Source tools and engines a bit Get back up to speed with graphics and design Come up with a business name Build a serious looking web site Finish and launch at least two games Have sales cover equipment and web site costs
In my post on my 2006 goals I wrote this : Firstly I want to add another one 8) Clean my room (Yes I realize that a year should be more than enough, but you clearly have not seen my room, there's about 16+ years of my personal history in that room) Secondly the first one "may" be a bit unrealistic, only because 100,000 dollars and finishing a game at the same time might not happen. (Obviously you need to finish something then sell it to make money). However it really depends on how long Hypno-Joe takes, I might get it done in half the year and make money by the end of the year. I'm mostly keeping this goal because if I aim for something lower I may only get something lower. Aiming for a higher goal (ie possibly out of reach but possibly not) means that I may get more than I would have otherwise. Let's say judge my performance from my uhfgames games (the two small puzzle games, and lx1) - I got a total of about 30 bucks. So let's say I put the attainable goal to be make 50 bucks. Now if I go for that goal, I may make 50 bucks, but then probably stop after that, because i'm only working toward a 50 dollar goal. Now let's say for instance I start with 100,000 dollars. Let's say I only make 100 dollars... now that's a 70% increase from my base. It's still not 100k dollars, but it's closer than it would be for my 50 buck goal. This is my whole theory for goalsetting, aim for more than you will most likely get, and you may get more than you would have with lower standards. Please don't flame on this, if you want to set your goal to "make 2 sales this whole year" that's fine, you do what's fine for you, this is what is good for me.
1. Release my "top secret(tm)" software project 2. Return to running: run a half-marathon 3. Finish learning how to swim (lose the racing snorkel) 4. Take up surfing 5. Master STL 6. Figure out where I'm going to live from 2007 onwards 7. Chronicle my RSI adventures on the web
Repetitive Strain Injury - sore wrists, forearms, and elbows. It almost ended my professional career this year. It's under control now, but still an annoyance.
Yeah, I know... I know I can handle the other stuff (have previous experience with most of it), but this could turn out to be a tough one. However, the biggest problem so far has been my own stupidity. I've been working long hours for extended periods of time, which is just a waste of resources. So, I go back to 40 hour weeks, and everybody wins. Now, I just have to figure out a way to keep myself on track...
Goals for 2006: - finish our website - release our first game - market it hell out so it make $10k net for me - release two more games Roman
