I was inspired to do this thread by that "how I blew 2005" thread below.

How about post here what you want to accomplish in 2006? Then next year we'll all look it over and laugh at Mike Boeh?

    Here's mine, for 2006:

    1. Release the game I'm working on now, by March

    2. Write a less casual, but still interesting game by July

    3. Have Hamsterball 2 in the Beta stages by December

    4. Make Emmanuelle mad

Laugh at me eh... Hey my goals are more realistic!

    From the other thread:
    • One smash-hit portal game.
    • Another "bugs" game.
    • 33% increase in Retro64.com traffic

    1. Find a new job
    2. Find a new house
    3. Make things work out with my girlfriend

(you never said it had to be about programming, and these things are much more important to me)

    Oh boy.
    • Anger more people via the round up. I'm shooting for 6 new people that hate us deeply. :p
    • *Maybe* visit to the west coast for some event. I.e. Mock Mark Fasset in person, instead of only on IRC. :D If not next year, then 2007.
I've run out of steam for these lists.

    Here's my little list:

    - establish myself as an independant developer (games and ordinary software)
    - release at least 2 games.
    - create a new independant games portal (see discussions earlier this month).
    - win the euromillion lotto (gosh.. 75 million € next friday; ok... not realistic;) )

    Finish my website
    Finish my game
Redoing the game because the first version sucked (Realistic indeed)
Improve my skills in C++ and Java
...and improve my skills in marketing.

Pretty realistic goals, i believe. Need to write these down and put them above my monitor...

    ...release 4 games

...reorganize and grow Mystery Studio so I no longer have to work full time as engineer, full time as project manager, full time tech support and full time business dev :)

...continue (finish?) developing 3D scanning, video-to-3D and building reconstruction technology

    ...develop motion capture technology

...start Mystery Something, our digital SFX company - that is, have a website and a demo reel

This doesn't include goals for others aspect of my life. Oh, wait, I don't have a life.

    ...have a life

Every year I set aggressive goals but not too aggressive that will cause disappointment. Looking back my 05 goals were to average over 1 mil pageviews per day on ArcadeTown, break 200 - 400k pageviews on HeavyGames, and break 100 sales per day. All done with very comfortable margin :)

    This year's preliminary goals...

    • Grow the company to multiple fulltime employees and take pressure off myself.
    • Break 300 sales per day.
    • Write a $10k+ monthly commission check atleast once.
    • Spend less times on these forums! Ok now I'm being to aggressive

    • Get broadband internet (am still on dialup)
    • Come up with a name for the company
    • Set up domainname, logo, web site, forum, newsletter, credit card processor, etc.
    • Work on my art skills
    • Finish the first game around April (reach 1,000 sales)
    • Learn game programming for the mac
    • Hire an artist
    • Release a Deluxe version around October
    • Make a christmas themed match 3 clone and release it in december (why not?)
    • Start working on real second game, to release it early 2007 thru portals.
    • Start working on third game, for release in september/october 2007, not portal friendly.
    • Finish my MBA
    • Make the first game an IGF 2007 finalist
    • Get a new car, computer, cell phone

    • Release a soon-to-be portal hit this Jan. ;)
    • Start immediate development on the next title
    • Innovate, in a mass market way.
    • Fix Office Life, rebrand, rerelease

I think I'll be able to do it...

    Eyes on the prize.

By the end of 2006 I will:
    1) Make 100K USD
    2) Finish Hypno-Joe
    3) Make nerds so jealous of Hypno-Joe's success, that they argue whether it's original or not, that end up descending into flamewars
    4) Make said nerds (see 3) either A) seriously defend it and/or B) Totally hate it
    5) Finish pre-production work on Fantasy Comedy Adventure game
    6) Lose 25 more pounds, to arrive at about 165lbs (weight not money)
    7) Learn to drive.

well, I'm going to become a father for the first time in 2006, July to be exact so my main goal is to learn as much as I can about good parenting before the little bugger arrives ;)

other than that I'm looking to lose a bit of weight and of course make more money

Sell Twilight to large corporate entity with more cash than common sense. Buy 50+ ft sailboat. Sail down to Australia and then across to the south pacific islands and over to Hawaii with the boat and me dissapearing mysteriously before I reach south America. Appear mysteriously again in 2008 with game ideas from dimension previously unseen by human eyes.

My advice would be to relax as much as you can, and party as often as possible. Being a good parent is easy, except your life will be shot to hell. Your baby will let you know what to do - everyone will give you big books to read, but you don't need 'em.

Hey Steve, you can pick me up on the way past.

Wow. more than 100 sales a day is impressive. Even if you get only 2$ per each sale (which I doubt) that's $200/day so $6000/month. What are you doing the christmas at home? get a holiday in the caribbean or something else. With such an income I won't stay at home for sure ;)
