Today I handed in my notice (30 days) at Big Fish Games Vancouver after being there for just over 2 years. So by Jan 15th 2011 I'll be Indie again under my old banner of Grey Alien Games - woot!

I'm totally "stoked" about this as I've got a ton of things I really want to do and I've met some amazing people over here in Vancouver who I'm looking forward to teaming up with. Also if any of you want to team up or are interested in working with me as a design consultant, let me know! I specialise in Casual Games and Facebook games and I'm passionate about arcade/retro games.

To pre-empt any "reason for quitting" questions, let's just say that I need to do my own thing again and leave it at that. Thx.

Also, in the Autumn of 2011 I'll be moving back to the UK because my wife's work visa will run out (mine was tied to Big Fish Games but hers was not because she was a "dependent") - unless something happens before then that makes it possible to stay.

Wish me luck in 2011! And good luck to all of you too.

Well... if everything fails we still can send him some GASPs (Grey Alien Support Packages) :)

@Grey Alien: Good Luck to you! It's easier to survive the second time you go indie... at least you know what you're facing :)

LOL I "knew it" but wasn't expecting it so soon ;)
Good luck, are you going to do coding again or gamedesign only?

    Awesome, good luck Jake

We'll have to organise a UK indie meetup when you're back, they seem to have just stopped since you left

Wow thanks for the support everyone! It means a lot.

I'm hoping that having been Indie before I have a better chance this time, although the marketplace has changed a lot and I'm also not going to be doing the same thing as before. I'm still doing research as to what area I want to pursue. I may just start out having fun and only try to make money after a little while.

    For sure, or less ;-p

I've been planning it for a long time. It was hard to keep quiet. I only let the hints out very recently ;-)

I'll be doing some coding for sure as I love it, but I also want to partner up with people so I can get multiple projects going at once. This is what I had planned to do back before I made Fairway for BFG. Making one game takes too long, so I want to do several at once as designer/producer/polisher etc.

For sure. In 2011 the Vancouver Indie meetup group that I co-founded (now at 250+ members) will be doing some awesome stuff. I hope I can use that same model in the UK and get some good stuff happening. We'll see. Anyway, Cas is rich now so he and Cliffski can buy the drinks and strippers.

Yup, in September unless something happens in between. Wouldn't call it sunny though. Well I guess it's sunnier than everywhere North of it. I'm looking forward to the summer in Vancouver as an Indie though, it's going to rock! I can go outside whenever I want and hike and hit the beach or whatever - no more staring out the window like a sad dog.

    F*CK YEAH!

Sorry just had to post that. That's how pumped I am, not apprehensive at all, although that could be the celebratory drinks talking.

@UK indie group, be sure to break a champagne bottle over this guy's head. (like in the movies, made out of spun sugar)

Anyone entering or re-entering the indie scene needs to get a knock on the head and a bon-voyage at the same time!

    Bon-voyage!
