Hi all, Now is my turn to start posting in this forum So, It's still in alpha stage but I'd like to have some feedback on the game and I though this may well be the ideal place for that. Battle for Independence is a multiplayer only game, so the more the merrier really. It plays like an RTS game but you control a single battle unit and the goal is to destroy the enemy main building (opposite of the map). You can download the game here (you will need something to unpack rar, the latest version of DirectX9 and a good 3D card that supports pixel shaders 2+) http://jeremy.chatelaine.name/bfi/BattleForIndependence.rar To create an account: http://www.lastfrog.com Since I still host the master server at home, I'll leave my PC switched on this week-end Feel free to try with some friends.
Nice to see you here Jeremy. I am glad to see that you are close to release now. Good luck with BFI. JC
The game was designed to be multiplayer only, but I will most likely include a single player mode for training purposes (with BOTs)... but probably not at the time of release.
I don't think i've ever seen a very successful multilpayer only indie game. In fact, even really big games that are multilpayer only like UT and Q3A have suprising stats. Recently Epic has been in the press a lot talking about how their adding a strong single player campaign to unreal tournament because their activation server shows that less that half of all purchases ever go online after buying the game in stores. Unless you've been able to develop some serious critical mass during development (soldat or coretex command come to mind) it's going to be very difficult to build post release.
Indeed Dan, this is definitely part of the challenge and I may have to open the game for the first year or find an alternate business model (like free access but pay for options) to gain what you refer as critical mass. Any ideas more than welcome
supposedly Google is on the verge of releasing "Adsense" for games. While I'm on the fence about how I feel about ads in games, if it helps keep indie developers continue to make games then I think I could be won over
