The Legend of Zelda theme song is pretty neat.
Also the Elder Scrolls series has a very unique soundtrack that has different variations in each game of the series, which makes it so very interesting. achetermed.fr
I also enjoyed the songs from Kingdom Hearts 2. Especially this song ''sanctuary'' which really fits into the whole dramatic ambiance that the game has and it amplifies this drama xD, so yeah it'pretty cool.

I played many games with good music. I remember a few memorable games like: Outrun (Sega Master System), Donkey Kong Country 2 (SNES), Final Fantasy 2 and Mystic Quest (SNES), Trine (PC).

Silent Hill series. Hands down. Akira Yamaoka (Silent Hill 1 to Homecoming) and then Daniel Licht (Downpour and Book of Memories) are the best composers, IMO. Both are a huge influence on my compositions as well.

There are a lot of soundtracks that knock me out. But it's hard for me to compare them, so I am more likely to categorize them by audio hardware generation:

    1st - Hardware/Chip based sound generation
    2nd - MIDI/Sample Playback
    3rd - CD-ROM Audio Playback
    4th - Real-Time Audio Streaming

    4th Gen (Real-Time Audio Streaming)
    Journey OST by Austin Wintory
Killzone 2 & 3 by Joris de Man
    Skyrim by Jeremy Soule
    Uncharted 1, 2, & 3 by Greg Edmonson
Mass Effect by Jack Wall, Sam Hulick, Richard Jacques, David Kates
L.A. Noire by Andrew Hale & more
Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory by Amon Tobin
Dragon Age: Origins by Inon Zur
Gears of War 2 by Steve Jablonsky
Crysis 2 by Hans Zimmer, Tilman Sillescu, & Borislav Slavov (Borislav Slavov's material is the best)
    Lair by John Debney
    Wildstar by Jeff Kurtenacker
StarCraft I & II by so many
WarCraft II & III by so many
...I could go on, there's so much good stuff being written now.

    3rd Gen (CD-ROM Playback)
    Grim Fandango by Peter McConnell
The Curse of Monkey Island by Michael Land
    The Dig by Michael Land
There was some good stuff during this era--but I was mostly a console player during this era.

    2nd Gen (MIDI Playback)
The Secret of Mana by Hiroki Kikuta
    Final Fantasy 6 & 7 Nobuo Uematsu
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past by Koji Kondo
F-Zero by Yumiko Kanki and Naoto Ishida
    Pilotwings by Soyo Oka
Super Mario World by Koji Kondo
Donkey Kong Country 2 by David Wise

    1st Gen (Hardware/Chip)
Mega Man 2 by Takashi Tateishi and Manami Matsumae
Castlevania II by Kenichi Matsubara and S. Terishima
Super Mario Land by Hirokazu Tanaka
Metroid II: Return of Samus by Ryoji Yshitomi
Monty on the Run by Rob Hubbard
Contra by H. Maezawa and K. Sada

If I had to pick just 1 I would go with the Elder Scrolls Morrowind sound track. It was just a beautiful epic score that made everything from fighting monsters to robbing some poor guy's house seem heroic on a grand scale.

Beyond all the classics and AAA titles I really enjoyed the sound tracks for FTL, Hotline Miami, The Banner Saga, and Shadowrun Returns.

    OMICRON!

By far the best game soundtrack I've heard. Xavier Despas did the score and it had some extra tracks by David Bowie and Reeves Gabrels.

Incidentally it is one of the most memorable PC games and easily on my top game list. Definitely worth checking out. Outdated now but the concept is fantastic and very immersive. http://www.drogas21.es

Holy crud, Dan... thanks for the effort in that post. I'll likely listen to 'em all over the next few days.

Also, YES to Nier. Sooo good.

The Killer 7 OST by Masafumi Takada was amazing:

    https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLadwMwf0KUoMfh4lzxgRCQ3Rn0Y5DoUJX

Fit the game perfectly and was a really interesting and unique soundtrack for a game at the time.
full of ambient, jazz, triphop, breaks, and experimental grooves.
Each song is engaging and entices you want to listen to it.

The game itself is still one of my all time favorite video games.

I loved it so much that I imported the 2-disc from Japan for like 40 bucks.
Now you can just listen to it on Youtube, ha. It's a little low quality and some of the tracks cut early, which kind of blows.

I only have half of it now. As someone, a long time ago, stole my CD binder out of my car. :\
How I miss that first disc. How I miss that ****ing binder. T_T

Had cool art and design on and in it's booklet too

Way too many to post about. Here's two:

Dragon Quarter (The game was poorly executed, but the music was pretty impressive to me)
Wasteland 2 (I have yet to tire of Mark Morgan)

I'd have to say my favorite is definitely Shadow of the Colossus. There is something that Ko Otani (the composer) does for this game that I don't know many other composers could replicate. I'm very much a fan of that Japanese video-game composer style. obviously Koji Kondo with zelda series is amazing. I thought the score for Red Dead Redemption was insane. I'm a huge fan of modern indie game scores because it's become a renaissance of chip-tunesque music and the whole idea of seeing how much impact can I fit into a tiny package.

Xenoblade Cronicles is definitely up there.
I'd say the Wind Waker is the best Zelda soundtrack of them all.
