    Hello all,

I know I said I was undecided about launching Atlantis on portals, but
BigFish came back with very persuasive arguments so here it is, Atlantis
just launched on bigfish this morning.

    Best regards,
    Emmanuel

    Congrats, AGAIN!

Hah! What a joke! "Came back with very persuasive arguments" Did they say something like, "You like ~100 sales in 4 days? Try 1 million sales in 4 days!" :) Either way, congrats, again, and best of luck with the sales! Looks like you'll be too good for us before long! :D

I think they had more interesting arguments like we give you 50% royalty instead of 35% ;)
That would be the only advantage of putting a game that sells so well in a portal already instead of keeping selling it on your own website for at least 1-2 more months :)

I can't disclose the convincing argument, but you can probably connect the dots:

soniCron: being too good for here is plain silly :) It's my first break, the first week of sales, and I've been running businesses long enough to know that it's not christmas every day, and that a humble approach is best :)

    Best regards,
    Emmanuel

Especially with DX now being available. Software rendering isn't in there but it's getting rarer and rarer (a bloody good thing too).

I didn't submit many games to portals, but I had:
Spin Around and Quizland on BFG
    UBM on reflexive

basically every time I submitted a game (made with PTK) was accepted by all portals, so wasn't a problem even in OpenGL only times... ;)

Interesting that the page source for the BigFishGames Atlantis download page identifies an illo for Atlantis as "Zuma Deluxe Puzzle Game" --

    Congrats on your game :)

But BigFish is giving it away for 6.99$... is it worth the deal?

    best regards

sparkyboy: Thanks, I appreciate your effort in speaking French! (get to work already :))

Roman: yeah, shouldn't go into the details I think, but we've made a very good deal for both parties. Check out bigfish's homepage this morning too. On top of the deal, we're starting to make up for it in volume :)

    Best regards,
    Emmanuel

    Hi
Marketing tricks... that's it. You have to buy 20 titles at one time to get 6.99$ price.

I guess the contract will not allow you to post some info about how well your game is selling on portal?

Even if it's not spelled out in the contract I don't think I should. In any case sales were already in the multiples of hundreds even before we made it to the editor's picks. As Gabriel would say, I'm damn happy.

(I guess this means that ptk is ready for prime time!)

    Best regards,
    Emmanuel

Maybe... but your game didn't want to start on my not so old laptop (PIII 850Mhz, 384 Ram, WinMe).

    best regards

I just got the BigFish newsletter, which says your game is a "runaway hit". Congrats. :) Strong direct sales and portals sales. Can't get much better than that.

    It's like a snowball effect.

They class it as a runaway hit and then more people will play it because the've been told it's a runaway hit.

That isn't to say the game isn't a legit runaway hit though! Just that the effect snowballs.

I'm really glad you are doing well :)

But, doesn't anyone realise that there are two games, being sold on the same site, of a similar type WITH THE EXACT SAME NAME!

You must be treading on super thin ice. It's alsmot like me making a first person shooter and calling it 'Quake 3'.
