Default ANN: Indie Game Info site

So, in order to balance my karma somewhat, I've started up a new project that should benefit the indie community. I'm building a site that will contain info about all that is indie, primarily games and developers. I want people to be able to use this site (and it's wiki) to find out about their favorite games, who made them, where to get more games like it, etc.

I think if this site had enough content it would generate some serious Google juice.

Indie Game Info

My hope is that this will act as a depository of indie games and developers so that people can find out (for example) who made that cool game they just downloaded from Real, what is that developers web site URL, find some tips/tricks/easter eggs for that game, get some background information, etc.

Really, this site is for you guys so fill it up with all the content about yourselves and your games that you feel is relevant!

I've never run a wiki before so I don't know if I've done anything horribly wrong - but it seems to work. I'll be customizing, refining it, and adding new content over the next few weeks and then it will be ready to announce on a larger scale. I'm hoping that gives us enough time to generate some real content.

And I forgot to mention - when entering your games/company info, PLEASE feel free to use external links to your sites/downloads. I am in no way trying to restrict users to stay within the wiki or anything silly like that.

I want this site to act as a launch pad so your players can find you.

I'd love to be checking it out at the moment, but it seems the internet hates one of us.

One day Savant, they are going to say "Sir, the only way we can save your liver is if we clone you a new one" and you're going to go "noooooo, just let me die in a pure and noble manner!" :-)

btw site still doesn't work. Prob just a 48 hour propagation issue.

indiegameinfo.com works for me (and redirects to www.indiegameinfo.com) but www.indiegameinfo.com doesn't.

Edit: now they both work

Ok, now it's up. Looks like Fost is trying to set an example with his solid Starscape entry, not to mention being the first outsider to contribute.

Yeah, awesome entry from Fost! I'm going to have to step it up on the Dr.Germ one now.

It's definitely working guys, so let's fill it up.

I enabled file uploading so you guys can include screenshots if you want to! Don't go crazy, of course, but it makes things look cooler so it seems worth it. Check it out:

(hopefully the DNS will resolve soon - heh)

Good luck Savant with indiegameinfo. But it's just another wiki about indie games. Remember this one: http://www.indiegameworld.com

That site looks like it didn't get much love. Most of the game entries are essentially devoid of content with lots of empty headers and nothing filled in. They also look to have stopped updating back in August of last year.

I know what I'm doing here isn't the first of it's kind but I'm hoping that we can develop it into the best. It's really to your benefit to add MinuteMatch in there and a page about your company. Go for it.

Nice enough idea - hopefully it will take off. One thing - it might be better if the external links opened in a new window.

If it becomes interesting, sure. Developers should be able to see the referrals in their own server logs though. At least, if it becomes something that people use.

Thanks! Although I cheated a little! Someone had allready written about Starscape on their own wiki, so I just copied and pasted pretty much.

Incidentally - I've copied over the wikipedia software infobox template from wikipedia, but simplified it a little. Might be useful (??) as everyone can fill that in. If you want to add anything, you can edit the original template page and the changes are propagated.

You can see it's use here (top right box)

When reading the original description of the Wiki, it occured to me that this would be essential too.

Can anyone tell me how to add a page to the wiki? I've created an account, logged on and can edit others, but I can't find a "create content" or similar butto to add my information. I'm new to Wiki's so I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, but I just need a little nudge.

Thanks

It's weird so it's not surprising you wouldn't see it. Just enter a URL that doesn't exist and then you can edit and save it to create it.

Like: http://www.indiegameinfo.com/index.php?title=MyGame

That'll create a new page for "MyGame".

If you add your stuff be sure to edit the pages linked from the main wiki page - the games list, the company list, etc.

Fost is really kicking ass adding stuff like templates and categories so follow his lead, not mine.

Easiest way is to go to the games list page, hit edit and add a new link like this:

*[[My Game Name]]

* creates a bullet point for the list, and [[]] defines a new internal link. Click on that link (ones you've saved the list page) and it will go into edit mode to create the page if it doesn't already exist.

Oh, and as for the links - I figure that if someone wants a link in a new window, they'll make that happen (middle click in FireFox, SHIFT click in IE).

So ... is nobody interested in this? There's 4 games in there now but I get the feeling there might be more out there.

I am very interested in this, though I'll refrain from contributing until I've released a game. By the way, I applaud your efforts for redemption -- it is a most honorable thing you are doing. (Provided, of course, you don't tarnish applicable pages wih a "100% Clonetastic!" message! )
