Default Stats time: OpenGL versions

<Edit: got a bracket wrong in my SQL query. Here are the slightly revised numbers:>
Code:
O/S GL Version Installs

Linux 1.2 106
Linux 1.3 157
Linux 1.4 161
Linux 1.5 251
Linux 2.0 138
Linux 2.1 64
Mac OS X 1.1 9283
Mac OS X 1.2 2129
Mac OS X 1.3 13373
Mac OS X 1.4 107
Mac OS X 1.5 21972
Mac OS X 2.0 2544
Windows 1.1 1486
Windows 1.2 1943
Windows 1.3 11576
Windows 1.4 10272
Windows 1.5 8297
Windows 2.0 8568
Windows 2.1 116
Taken from 1 Jan 2007 till today. Note OSX is so far behind XP. Still 20% of OSX machines are using GL 1.1.

Those stats are from all of my games. Though mostly that's Titan Attacks these days.

It would be nice to know how many of those are actual sales.

I'm a bit shocked about the osx figures, as the version of osx that you need for opengl 2.0, as far as I know, has been out for over a year now.

Then again, apple owners don't have much pressure to update their OS..

Indeed. They appear to hang on to older hardware longer too. But that's all about understanding their market.

Oh, I am such a cock. I forgot the date filter after all, those stats were for all time obviously (duh, 3000 sales).

Here's the real results from 1 January 2007, excluding noise under 300 installs (which means 10.2, Vista, Linux not featured here):
Code:
O/S Version Successes Failures Total Failure Rate %

Mac 10.3 1631 232 1863 12.5
Mac 10.4 8199 815 9014 9.0
Win 5.1 9357 2526 11883 21.3

                     19394 3666 23060 15.9
So it looks like my earlier announcment of ubiquitous OpenGL was premature. However a quick calculation still shows me that even if I had a DX sprite engined version of my games I'd only make another $500 - no way worth it in terms of time even at ten times the traffic. As it is, that's 368 sales there.

Here's the corrected GL versions stats:
Code:
O/S GL Version Installs

Mac OS 10.3 1.1 517
Mac OS 10.3 1.3 601
Mac OS 10.3 1.5 512
Mac OS 10.4 1.1 733
Mac OS 10.4 1.2 1415
Mac OS 10.4 1.3 1162
Mac OS 10.4 1.5 2833
Mac OS 10.4 2.0 2058
Windows XP 1.2 364
Windows XP 1.3 2088
Windows XP 1.4 2305
Windows XP 1.5 1061
Windows XP 2.0 3305

That's interesting, Cas, is 1.2 the *lowest* you can go on XP? I was always under the impression that XP came with 1.1? Still, makes me glad I supported <1.4 with my last game as it seems a quarter of people would have had to use it.

XP doesn't come with hardware OpenGL under 1.2 - the 1.1 driver is Microsoft's hopelessly slow software renderer.
