It makes perfect sense to me, though. Me and the compiler.

I didn't now you had any Cletus code (or at least I have forgotten showing you any). It is marginally better than the Platypus code, but it has been hacked up so many different ways over the last 4 years, there are parts of it that are now extremely weird, with odd little wrappers for old code and stuff. The menus in particular have been hacked up so much, I'm actually not quite sure how they work any more. but I can't be bothered restructuring them, because they do work.

Next time I'm going to write an extremely neat and well-structured piece of work just to show you guys. Since it seems like other people always end up sifting through my code in the end...

I don't understand. Was Anthony Flack not responsible for the Original Code in the European and Japanese PSP releases of Platypus, too?

How is that even possible? Do you have access to some sort of crazy time-bending machine?

Wasn't that supposed to mean that the poster had simply only seen the u.s. version of the manual? Kick me if I'm wrong..

I had assumed given the monosyllabic, stark rebuttal of diddlyD's post that he was from the publishers who had picked up on this thread. Could be wrong.

Man, that sucks. I feel truly sorry for you, Anthony. I can understand why you signed the deal in the first place, but i can't begin to understand how bad you feel about it now. I am really looking forward to Cletus Clay, and if it can make it to the PSP... that would truly rock (and i would buy the game in the blink of an eye). Blow 'em away

I think we should all add that publisher to the credits in all of our games. Hell, they deserve the credit! Maybe I'll list them in the credits and state that they did nothing, but I just wanted to mention them

I don't believe that there is a country in the world that does not respect or enforce authorship rights. You can probably get a pretty good prosecution team willing to work for a percentage on something that vile and flagrant.

Yeah, but what an awesome engine you have to base it on

And whilst someone was talking about sending bullets over WiFi, at least you didn't have to port existing code from another big indie game that sends its data numbers as ASCII !!!!!

I wonder who here is gonna recognise that

I just took Copyright Law last semester, so I figured I'd share some generalized knowledge I have on the subject. This is what the U.S. Copyright Act has to say about the moral right of attribution:

Quote:
106A. Rights of certain authors to attribution and integrity

(a) Rights of attribution and integrity. Subject to section 107 and independent of the exclusive rights provided in section 106, the author of a work of visual art--
__(1) shall have the right--
____(A) to claim authorship of that work, and
____(B) to prevent the use of his or her name as the author of any work of visual art which he or she did not create;
__(2) shall have the right to prevent the use of his or her name as the author of the work of visual art in the event of a distortion, mutilation, or other modification of the work which would be prejudicial to his or her honor or reputation; and
__(3) subject to the limitations set forth in section 113(d), shall have the right--
____(A) to prevent any intentional distortion, mutilation, or other modification of that work which would be prejudicial to his or her honor or reputation, and any intentional distortion, mutilation, or modification of that work is a violation of that right, and
____(B) to prevent any destruction of a work of recognized stature, and any intentional or grossly negligent destruction of that work is a violation of that right.

(b) Scope and exercise of rights. Only the author of a work of visual art has the rights conferred by subsection (a) in that work, whether or not the author is the copyright owner. The authors of a joint work of visual art are coowners of the rights conferred by subsection (a) in that work.
So yes, under U.S. law, we all have a moral right of attribution to works we've authored for as long as we live, even if we sign away the copyright to those works. The problem, though, is that this only applies to works of visual art, which has a particularized definition under the Copyright Act. I would contact a lawyer if you're curious about whether you can make use of these provisions, since I'm honestly not sure they would work for a video game.
