I don't think the Mutant Storm guys post here anymore.
Just fired this up from partnernet on the 360. Never played it before.
Fucking ace game, mate. Hope you're making a shitload of money out of it!
If only we could persuade MS to reserve XBLA for games like this
I don't think the Mutant Storm guys post here anymore.
It's cool to see them finally get an audience for their games. I remember the developer lamenting that the PC space wasn't as receptive as they'd hoped but it appears the 360 has cured all that.
There's a lesson to be learned here, maybe.
I love this sort of game and I reckon that quality examples are far too sparse. I wish I knew that Mutant Storm was this good as I would've paid for it ages ago, but as it happens I'd not even looked at it before today.
The reason ?...The name of the game!
It sounds to me like some amateur crock of crap that is just a space invaders clone that doesn't even match the quality of Taito's original. The sort of thing that might show up as a java applet on somebody's webpage (which would be ok in that circumstance, but you know what I mean).
The only reason I downloaded it today was that I was sick of debugging something horrendous so went to check out any new releases on partnernet. (Yeah, right. As if, etc). I saw Mutant Storm and only downloaded it wondering how they got this pos on live at all. Note that I'd still not confirmed its pos'ness. I was making assumptions.
Only after I downloaded did I realise it was not only not a pos, but a very well presented, polished game that I hope brings its author big success.
I dunno how representative I am, but I learned a lesson from this myself that may be valuable to others. The name of your game is everything! It cost them at least one sale right here...
I knew a guy at my last job who loved that game, played it every day. He got a pirate copy, despite being a game developer, for which I gave him a right earfull. He claimed that he'd never heard of the payment company, so didnt want to trust his credit card to them.
XBox live cuts out the piracy.
Unless you're a registered dev with some kit. In that case you get every single game for free.
Keep on playing and you'll get your 10 grand back (if anyone is fool enough to pay for one)![]()
I bought the mac version of MS the moment it came out and was a big fan of the game. I also think that XBoxLive is much more profitable bc there is much less piracy and its easier to pay.
But... MS is not such a great game to compare bc it plays sooo much better with a dual analog console-type controller than keyboard/mouse. So I think this game just plays better for console gamers than pc games.
Just curious but what would have been a better style of name for you?Originally Posted by Applewood
About the only hard naming criteria I can come up with is that it should be unique enough that if you type the name of the game into google you are likely to find the developers website.
That and trying not to name yourself after urine.
I guess if it's a clone or homage you probably want it to sound like or reference the original in some way as well.
I wish I could answer that - I tried as I was making the observation and couldn't come up with anything better.
I think it's the word "mutant" that does it for me. It's right next to "zombie" in the list of game names that sound cack to me. Might be just me though as I said at the start.
