    Default Chicago Meetup?

There hasn't been a Chicago meet up for a while. Is anyone interested in doing something mid-July? I'll also be at the IGDA meeting in a couple days, wanted to see if anyone from here will be showing up there also (TimS, GB, etc.)

I'm glad you brought this topic up. I've been swamped with work for the past month or so, and setting up a meeting has been put off for way too long. The next meeting is supposed to be in Schaumburg.

I also plan to be at the IGDA meeting.

I'm game for a meeting whenever... but I won't be at the IGDA thing this time around... I just can't bring myself to be interested in the subject matter of the day. I know I should go anyway and shmooze and such, but I'll probably still end up skipping it.

Mid July, eh? Well I guess with that much notice perhaps we can muster up better attendance numbers this time around. We always get a handful who ask if they can come and then never do...

My only request is that it not be July 10th. It's my 7 year anniversary!

I'm thinking about applying to EA, so I'll be there. Whether or not its a good idea to apply to EA, I don't know, but its downtown, there are entry level positions, and I'm not really feeling my current job.

Yeah, it would be nice if Nothinglikeit, Alex Hanson White, Zbigniew, etc. showed up . It kind of sucks if its just us 3. I'll be showing my new top secret game!

I was wondering when we would have another one. I couldn't make the one in Chicago because my wife had already planned to do something that night, so I had to watch the kids

I would definitely be willing to attend the next one if its in Schaumburg. Just give me a date and a time and a time, and I'll be there.

ooh... mystery! Always good to see new stuff and news...

There's a chance, depending on the date this thing is held in July, that it'll mutate into a Blobyrinth launch party as well... must... finish... pacman...

So, being relatively new to the whole indie thing, what exactly goes on at these meetings?

Depends on who shows up, really. If everyone present has already seen everyone present's latest project in whatever shape it is in at the moment, it's just a good time to sit around and chat with folks of like mind and much ilk. If not, demos of work in progress tend to go on. Typically very few show up -- and once, there were about a million (not sure why... mebbe cuz James C. Smith was in town... )

If you've got something you'd like to show, bring it. If you've got something you'd like to discuss, bring your discussion-muscle. If you want to argue about religion, buy me alcoholic beverages. Other than that, it's pretty much up in the air (unless GB whips up an agenda for us).

Do we have a date and time?
Who prefers what? Chime in if you have a vote for weekend or weekday, etc. I think most of us are pretty open other than day jobs, no? After we get some idea of who is free when we can set up a day that most can make. I'll cast my vote for the 22nd or 23rd, but I'm almost literally free at any time and day.

I'd second it, but as I am not home I can't check the calendar to see if I actually can second it.

So tentatively, I'm down for either date.

I'm free for either the 22nd or 23rd. If we're really ambitious, we could have a 48 hour meeting. B-)

48 hours? You mean like the Chicago game jam ? If you can get more than 3 people interested and a place to do it I would be up for it . But its a little short notice, I think. The 22nd or 23rd should be good for me.

I think the meeting on the 22nd or 23rd will be at the Streets of Woodfield Starbucks. Unless you're referring to this theoretical indie game jam, which is something I brought up at the last meeting but was never officially planned. If it takes place I have no idea where it would be. Ideally it would be at the office of some Chicago area University or game developer during the weekend. It won't happen this month though. If we get enough interested people I can see it happening a few months from now.

Yay! Wow we take quite a bit of work to arrive at time and date around here... Glad that's finished with. See you folks there. I understand Immersive Realms should be represented this time around, too. Anyone seen / talked to Action lately?
