If I may give a suggestion, there's also eBay to get maybe a broader chance than this board alone can give.
Hi guys,
I'm looking to sell a load of my programming books. All asking prices below include postage (unlike Amazon, who add £2.75), and all books are in good condition. Most are as new. Please let me know if you're interested in any of the books, or even if you want to make an offer which is lower than what I'm asking for. I can accept PayPal, cheques, rupees from Zelda, etc.
- Game Programming Gems 1 [Hardcover] by Deloura; DeLoura, Mark
£30- Game Programming Gems 2 [Hardcover] by DeLoura, Mark
£25- Game Programming Gems 3 [Hardcover] by Treglia, Dante
£20- Feynman's Lectures on Physics: Mainly Mechanics, Radiation and Heat v. 1
£10- Feynman's Lectures on Physics: Mainly Electromagnetism and Matter v. 2
£20- Feynman's Lectures on Physics: Quantum Mechanics v. 3
£20- Rules of Play: Game Design Fundamentals [Hardcover] by Salen, Katie; Zimmerman
£30- A Book on C.: Programming in C. [Paperback] by Kelley, Al; Pohl, Ira; Kelly, Al
£5- OpenGL Programming Guide: Release 1.1 (OTL) [Paperback] by Neider, J.; Woo, M
£15- Exceptional C++ [Paperback] by Sutter, Herb
£13- 3D Game Engine Design [Hardcover] by Eberly, David H.
£30- Commodore 64 Machine Language for the Absolute Beginner [Paperback] by Davis
£20 (out of print and pretty rare - can't get for less than £24 on Amazon)
Okay, maybe not rupees.
Thanks,
Pete
Edit: Removed sold books
Edit: I was selling through Amazon Marketplace too, but found that they take a very unreasonably share of the money (e.g. I received 62p for a book I asked £2 for).

Greets,

Thanks, and you're right.
I checked out eBay before putting the books up for sale though, but I couldn't find any of my books, which made me nervous that they'd either not sell, or only sell for pennies.
Some of them are rather valuable, so I didn't go for eBay. Yet.
As long as you set a reserve, you really don't have anything to worry about.
Doesn't a reserve scare off buyers though? They're potentially wasting their time unless they hit some unknown value.
Or maybe not, I've never set a reserve.
Pretty sure it says right on the auction that the reserve hasn't been met yet. They'll know...
Yep, but I don't think it says how much the reserve is. So basically the buyer doesn't know if they're wasting their time or not.
I recommend Half.com. Which is owned by eBay, so maybe you already know about it... but it generally works much better than auctions, which only last a maximum of 10 days.
You can set a reserve, but you still need to pay something to have the auction in the first place. It might not be worth it just to see if people might be interested.
And this forum is a well-targeted demographic. I'm interested in Game Programming Gems 3 and Rules of Play: Game Design Fundamentals, for instance, although I'm not so sure about shipping charges. B-)
- Check out Stop That Hero!, a game in which you play the villain for once!
- GBGames' Blog
- Twitter: www.twitter/com/GBGames
You could also list any that don't sell here on Amazon.co.uk/Amazon.com depending on your location. That way anyone searching for those books will get the option to buy them from the New/Used category.
Thanks Pyabo, I'll check out half.com - I'd not heard of it before.
GBGames, yes the shipping to USA would probably be quite expensive considering the weight of the books. Not sure if Amazon take the weight into account though, so I would have to bear the extra cost. But that's probably no biggie.
Edit: Looks like half.com isn't available in the UK yet - shame, it looks really good!

That should be the case at the moment - I've sold a couple of books this way already.Originally Posted by Gary Preston

Now I'm waiting for Karma to bring me that lottery ticket...
