    Default IGN's Direct2Drive online store

A GameDev news article reports that IGN have launched Direct2Drive, their online store for downloadable PC games, which serves IGN, GameSpy, FilePlanet, TeamXbox, Rotten Tomatoes, and others (which reach 20.2 million users apparently).

The games are full retail productions available at a range of prices: $9.95, $19.95, and $29.95. You can get games like Prince of Persia: Sands of Time for $19.95.

Retail games are being distributed in a similar way to indie games at a comparable price.

    Should we worry?

I don't think people buy indie games because they're about $10 cheaper. If it were, they'd never bother buying an indie game.. there simply isn't enough game for the buck to match an AAA title.

I think people go for indie games because most of them are different and appeal for other reasons (puzzle-lovers, classic game lovers etc.). So I think we shouldn't really worry much. After all, most AAA games end up in the bargain bin anyway.

Also bear in mind the download, the Tom Clancy game says 1100 meg of HD required. I am on dial up, but for those on broadband I am sure it would take a while!

No, we should put our games there.
Hehe I doubt we will be able to put our games there with a decent deal (at least 25% royalties)...
