I got a private message spam on this board to fiteye.com from "kristina".Did everyone get that? I saw she was banned. Thanks to the moderator or whoever that banned that person. I'll be sure not to do anything with fiteye.com

Got a spam email from:
ManuelMarino of marinosounds.com
It was to a very old, little used address that has ended up on some spammer lists. I did NOT sign up for anything from marinosounds.
Finally, I get to do something about a spam, boycott marinosounds and hope that others don't do business with them.

I got a PM to fiteye.com as well, and I think others did too.
Different cases. Kristina is a spammer and yes, I banned her. Marino on the other hand is an actual musician (and a good one at that - he made the music of our latest game) who apparently uses questionable marketing tactics.
I'm not justifying his methods, I'm just pointing out that the spam cases you're reporting are different, and Marino doesn't have anything to do with the recent wave of PM spam we've been suffering.

I got a spam too, from test123, started a thread asking to ban him, and what did the administrator do? He/they deleted my thread, not ban the lamer, and didn't even explain me why! Sometimes I really think I should quit myself..
I already wonder.. Will this post be deleted too without any explanation?

That user was banned, and you should have contacted an administrator privately, not start a thread which only serves to clutter the forum.

I disagree - if every business sent 1 unsolicited email you could never delete the spam fast enough. I spend too much time deleting all the offers for viagra, oem software and web marketing.some email marketing is ok...
Yep, don't enjoy that much either - but at least they have to spend real money to send it - so I doubt it will get out of hand.dont you get unsolicited mail in your real life mailbox

Yeah, I had a lady unsubscribe from my mailing list last month and she sent me a nasty email saying, "I didn't sign up for this mailing list! Take me off immediately!". Yeah.

Are we sure this is not a joke being played on the guy? It's a freaking hotmail address (though it is based in Italy..."musicproduction@hotmail.it"). I tried looking his email up through this site and it's blocked... Can anyone verify if that's an email of his?

I also got one in the last hour - so it is "spam" albeit not the annoying kind, I certainly never entered an email anyway so BMCs post doesn't make sense - he has obviously harvested them from this forum (because it wasn't my company email but my forum/private one).
I'm too busy to worry about this, I would cut him some slack as he seems to be trying to drum up business in a semi-targetted fashion at least. However I won't be replying as I do my own music and always will

I got one also and really don't mind. How else is Marino supposed to get the word out into this market? We typically don't/can't pay well enough to justify advertising. I'm often in the position of needing sound and art and having somebody with the gumption to go out and get work makes my life simpler if they can meet my quality & costs needs.
Since leaving my day job I've really felt no hesitation about contacting people in the past for various business related reasons. OK, not quite true, but I've gotten over it as it's better to make the attempt and get something going (which has often happened) than to worry about offending somebody with an email that takes 1/2 second to dismiss - if it really bothers you then simply block them. A targeted letter is pretty different than 50 a day for Viagra or knock-off watches.
Well I guess I'm too sensitive
But I still think its a slippery slope - if every business decides that unsolicited "targeted" email campaigns are the way to go, I think it would get pretty ugly.
And who decides whats targeted?

I was just spammed again from "marinosounds.com" after asking him to please remove my email address. He's indeed on a spam mission and I for one do not like these kind of tactics. If he's making the kind of money he mentions in his email then why on earth is he spamming us smaller indie guys?

If the message you quoted is what you're referring to, that's not spam. He's sent it directly to you and no-one else, and it's a response to your email to him, justifying his high prices. You could either just ignore it, hoping he's paid attention to your request to remove you from his mailing list, or send another reply repeating the request (and if he responds it doesn't mean you're still on his mailing list)
Personally, I wouldn't consider those who offer their work on this board to be "unprofessional" just because they don't charge the same prices as TV advertisers. And when it comes time to source music for MY games, I know where I won't be looking. And I doubt he'll get much business from here when there ARE others (amateur or not) offering high quality for lower prices.
