ps. Moderators: Drunkenness exaggerated for comic affect. Point remains valid. Apologies!

    Dear. Lord. *laughs*

Before this thread gets deleted, I wonder if anyone have made any titles targetting college kids. Loud, flashy games that are fun to play drunk, or trippy, pretty games that are fun to play high. Have any of you guys made anything with that intention, or do you plan to?

Greatest drunk-with-friends game ever: "You Don't Know Jack"
    2nd place: NBA Jam

There are no dumb questions... unless you dare to ask them on an internet message board.

Well, I'd like to add Baseball Stars 2 (NeoGeo) to that list.

As for trippy/pretty, Ferry Halim's Starry Night is most beautiful.

I've been told that our game would be enjoyed by psychedelic tripped out hippies and that it's uber trippy..

    (wasn't targeting them tho..) hehe..

maybe this is a good point. When drunk, the speed at which you take in information is slower, your more easily confused, and make more mistakes. In other words, you play like a newbie. I reckon I'll try this on my games in future.

Since already on the subject, 50% of the sound effects i made for my first game, were recorded under the influence of alcohol...

I'm actually better at bullet hell games after one beer and no, I'm not an alcoholic. The visual perception is slightly different. Its like zooming out a bit and I can see all bullets at the same time, wheras I usually get some kind of tunnel effect, because I concentrate too much on the closer bullets (which can lead you into unavoidable death traps).

I'm also not the only one who observed this effect. But I still think its somewhat odd or at least unexpected.

There was a thread a while ago about how to gain insight into what an average player experiences while playing your game. One suggestion I liked was to double the game speed, and see how hard it becomes. It makes sense to half the player speed instead. Just remember kids, don't drink and code.

@soniCron: how about Spheres of Chaos? Works for me.

It's because the one drink relaxes you. Your performance would begin to dip after two or three drinks, probably. I've heard about this sort of thing myself - something about opening up your field of vision by imagining an orange at the back of your head.

Bizarre, I know. Imagine an orange - indeed, see it in your hand. Imagine the smell, the feel of orange skin beneath your fingers. Now place your imaginary orange behind your head (as its imaginary, it can hang there and defy gravity) and keep a mental eye on it. Somehow, this has the effect of opening up your peripheral vision.

Soft focusing like this is great for games with a lot happening at once.

Someone asked if there were good games to play while high or drunk - well I've never done it (gotten high) but if I did I think this game would probably be quite entertaining:

When I was at Gremlin and we made N20 (which you can pick up in bargain bins these days for next to nothing ), we used to get a ton of mail about it from people who'd played it under the influence of drugs.

Oddly enough, our US publisher wanted to change the name because Nitrous Oxide is a recreational drug in the US (??). Conversely, he suggested we replace the pound coins you pick up in the game with white discs with a capital 'E' on them - He thought it could stand for 'electronic money'.

    ... err, yeah...
