There are just a lot of Mikes. For every Mike making sweet games, there are probably 20 or 30 Mikes that have accomplished nothing whatsoever.
Sincerely,
Mike
Seriously guys, how come all good classic arcade games with nice bright colored graphics come from people named Mike? Blitwise.com's DX-Ball and Pocket Tanks are 1337 mohaxxio. Platypus was an awesome game with good graphics and great action and game play. Z-Ball was just as good as DX-Ball in every aspect except for the music, which was better. Now, look at the games on RealArcade. It seems that they are all annoying. Waaay too many puzzles. Why don't they get more Mike's working for them? Is this just a weird coincedence, or what?

You can call me Mike if it makes it any easier.

It appears you just like that bright style- which means it's no coincidence you like the games from both Mike Welch and myself. Mike and I have known each other for over 10 years and both worked at the same commercial game company; and we both have our roots in the c64 and Amiga. We also share a lot of code. Cosmo Bots and Super DX-Ball are both nearly finished, and probably have about 75% of their code in common. You will probably like Super DX-Ball, it's really cool. He has worked on it for a long time![]()
On a slightly related note, if your name were Mike and your surname was Rowe, you'd be on easy street.Just imagine Mike Rowe Soft.
You can legitimately register mikerowesoft.com and Bill can't do shit about it.
unless you're the real Mike Rowe who actually did that and caved in. stupid, no good, sellout.

I had a brother named Mike. He never made any games, but he did produce many colorful paintings. When I was a kid, my best friend's name was Mike. He's a plumber now; dunno how colorful his work is. Finally, I have another friend named Mike who actually makes games. Very muted colors in his games. All three very un-Mike-like. So, there you have the three exceptions that prove the rule (though I'm willing to bet there are more out there who are simply keeping a low profile until the pressure to be a "real" Mike blows over--my sense for future trends leads me to believe that next year's Mike is going to be either Thad or Nigel. Name your children accordingly.).

Mike in its basic form is nonexistent in Finland. However, our local variety Mikko is pretty common. My good friend Mikko works doing design, programming and graphics for an arcade game on the GameCube. It is a bright and colorful game, so he fits the standards of a "real" Mike.![]()
I work in a small engineering team, 7 guys. 3 of us are "Bill". Hmmm....
Bill
My name is Bruno.... shit! I'm screwed!!
So you "wanna be like Mike", eh?![]()
I have known a lot of Mike's in my lifetime. In fact, there were two "Mike Wilson"s in my high school; boy that got a little confusing.
How about finding the most rare name on this forum?![]()
NO MORE SARCASM, JUST STRAIGHT CAPS FACTS.
this is sparta!!!!
The multitude of Mikes can get confusing. My mother's name is Mike. My father's brother's name is Mike. My 10-year business partner's name is Mike.

Some names seem to be used for both men and women. In Id Software, one of the co-founders is named Adrian Carmack. Until I read Masters of Doom, I was under the impression that Adrian Carmack was John Carmack's wife.Originally Posted by disaffected
And another guy named Sandy worked for them doing level design (made a lot of levels for Doom 2 and Quake).
I can understand names like Sandy, Michel(le) and Andrea being confusing, gender-wise. But Adrian?![]()

Yes, her first name is "Michael" and she goes by "Mike". And since she took my father's name when they married, my mother and my uncle both have the same first AND last name.Originally Posted by disaffected

Well I guess there are just a lot of people named Mike.
Can someone point me to a developer with classic retro style games (Like the ones in my first post) that isn't named Mike though?
Nice to meet you, Bruno Shit. I agree. My name is Bruno.... shit! I'm screwed!!
In spanish, Mike (or more precisely Michael) is Miguel. It's not one of the most popular names nowadays but it isn't uncommon at all.
My name, Gabriel, is pretty international. I think nobody else is called Gabriel here?

And that is not the general opinion of Indiepath Ltd - etc... legal .... blah..
There can be Adrian, and there can also be Adrienne. It can be confusing if you hear people say the same, cause they sound the same. It's more clear in print.Originally Posted by Nemesis
