    Default What is media kit ?

    Hi, after I sent my PR, there has been a few requests for media kit. Since I'm new in this business, I kinda curious what is it, what's in it ? Is there a sample (mostly that game developer uses) for media kit ?
    Care to share, anyone ?

    I review games for Game Tunnel, and usually I just get a download link, maybe a CD in the mail, but sometimes I get a full kit. Those kits make a huge impression on me, and I'm sure they do so for other reviewers and members of the media.

    A simple and cheap folder with a business card affixed to it in some way, some papers with high quality screenshots of the game in question, a press release describing the new game and the company, and a CD with the game to review along with demos of all the other games the company has made seems to be effective. A strategy guide or hint book would also be a nice addition if you have one. I've received a packet like this from one company for a few games.

    Another company sent me a CD, but they also sent me a spiral-bound packet about the game with high quality photos and quotes from the press, a postcard that sounded like it came from the game's universe, and I want to say a bumper sticker, but I am not sure. It wasn't as impressive as the folder mentioned above, but it was different.

    Default Media Kit

    An ONLINE media kit should contain (if you aren't shipping them CDs and stuff):

    An introduction sheet about the game and company (and a thank-you)

    A sell sheet (think "back of a retail box")

    Several high res screenshots

    Links to download both the demo and the full version (or a keycode)

    Relevant contact information.

    Glad to see the press release is having an impact!

    oh my... joe, i blame you for making my life a living hell for the last couple of days. I spend my day replying emails and such, mostly thank you notes n such, making endless revision and testing my game again being paranoid that some bug might show up.
    Ha ha just kidding .. thanks alot but really i never expect that the response will be this much ?

    Maybe this is my first time releasing a game so I don't know what to expect .. i hope i get some sales too

    Yeah, same here. Both of the press releases that Joe sent out for me generated a lot of email-replying work. It's terrible to have to talk to people about reviews and distribution deals. Bragging for Joe here more than me, but the press release for DROD: King Dugan's Dungeon brought me:

    * 2 requests to license DROD for distribution.
    * 1 affiliate request.
    * 2 interviews (1 done, 1 promised).
    * 3 reviewers asking for eval copies.
    * 1 plug in a blog entry
    * Lots of verbatim postings of the press release itself.
    * At least a couple of immediate sales. Probably more, but my tracking isn't sophisticated enough to see where they all come from.

    For me anyway, that is a great little burst of interest. My strategy is to have a good excuse for a press release every 2 or 3 months. They seem to be really helpful.

    Default And...

    Helpful to me too The press list is ever-growing.

    Now nearing the 1,000 mark.... but 84 e-mails are now dead... so back down to 900

    That's great. Sounds like Terin's press release service is really worthwhile.

    Yep, I had to try sending a press release without Terin and while it was just about an upgraded version of a game which's non-upgraded version me and Terin already had sent a press release about, I'd still say that the results of that upgraded version's press release would have been significantly better if Terin had sent it. I did send it to most major places even.
