Us Canucks celebrated Thanksgiving back in October, and don't worry ggambett, you aren't missing much. For the most part Turkey is a very dry meat. The white meat anyways, the dark meat is pretty good.
Just enjoyed some faux turkey...
This stuff is just as good as turkey, unlike its ugly stepsister Tofurkey![]()
Nothing beats a good Turducken though. A chicken inside a duck inside a turkey. Mmmm.

So, no turkey in Britania 'eh? Wow, it's totally only chicken or turkey here. Oh, that and hummingbird. Ever tried hummingbird? Mmmm.
The turkey is just a huge flightless bird, probably historicly chosen 'cause it's so huge. And yes, Thanksgiving is just another excuse to gather the family and have a big meal like xmas... and to buy gifts for xmas, and a new TV.

No turkey here.
But I've PM-ed you about my freeware Christmas game.
Maybe you are interested.
Yes the meal is very much like xmas, difference is it's even more of an excuse to stuff yourself so full that you'll be sick for a day or twoOriginally Posted by cliffski
Mmmm stuffing.
Not 100% but think turkey is an Armerican phenomenon being first domesticated in US. They also make great banter for flash games as they're so cute and dumb. Domesticated turkeys are dumb but wild turkeys are darn smart so hunters love them.
My partner here is a vegetarian and celebrates with Tofurkey, a tofu Turkey. Sweet...
I used to think the same thing. Then I learned about brining. I always soak my turkeys for 7-8 hours in a salt and seasoning solution before I cook them. They always come out very juicy (even the white meat) and delicious.Originally Posted by Bmc

That was a great story, Viridian!
And I generally don't notice that the turkey is dry. That's what gravy is for. B-)
cliffsky: The story with Thanksgiving is that the Pilgrims that showed up in the Americas to avoid religious persecution had a rough winter. People were dying. Imagine taking a multi-month voyage and then having to content with a harsh winter once you got there. The Indians provided food for them, and that day is known as Thanksgiving day. It's a holiday off of work, a time to bring family and friends together, and a time for football...er, American football.
Benjamin Franklin wanted the turkey to be the official symbol of America. The eagle won out. But we still eat turkey for Thanksgiving. Gravy is the key! Although brining sounds good, too.
Sirrus: Faux turkey? I'd love to know about it. I'm not a vegetarian (yet), but I'm trying to eat more fruits and vegetables, while consuming less meat and dairy. I've lost 10 lbs since July. Now Thanksgiving has passed, and Christmas is coming. I might gain it all back. B-)

Hope you had a great time. But tell me, what does tofurkey taste like?
Tofurkey is kinda gross...
Its literally Tofu in a wierd shape...
Last I recall it tastes mushy.
Fake turkey (bought the Quron brand) is really good. Like other fake meat products (chicken sandwiches, nuggets, etc.), it has the texture and taste of real turkey. It looks like a log, but it tastes like the real thing.
I was happy with it....
The polyphasic sleep thread gave me a great idea. This weekend I stuffed myself with turkey and mashed potatos and proceeded to take six 20-30 minute naps in addition to a good 10 hour nights' sleep. Progress is good, I still have full concentration and I'm not even tired!

It's not dry if you cook it properly. For the most part Turkey is a very dry meat.
