Taking the plunge

Hi guys. I don't post here that often, but i've been following this forum and its previous incarnation for a couple of years now. I first came to visit when I released New Star Soccer, looking for advice, marketing tips and so on. Well, New Star Soccer 3 is finally out which just so happens to coincide with the IT helpdesk job that I have been doing for the last 4 years being shut down and shipped out to Manila. Whilst I would have continued happily doing a night job that involved lots of sleeping, working on my own projects and occasionally answering the phone for lots of money the idea of switching to the busy Monday to Friday dayshift which would not only sap the very life out of me but also rob me any free time in which to program my next game fills me with dread. Thus, I have decided to take the plunge and become a full time indie developer.

All the help and advice I have found on this forum has been invaluable so i'd like to say thanks for that and I hope that I can be of help to others in the future. At the moment my bank account looks ok, sales a flowing nicely and my girlfriend and I are about to buy our first house. Wednesday night is my last shift in a "proper" job and after that it's just me, on a raft in the open sea. Wish me luck!

Good luck! if I remember well, you live in UK, so with the bad USD to GBP conversion, you need all the luck you can!

Oho. Best of luck. I remember you told me about that job (well, it was less than a month ago) and it did sound incredibly convenient. I've got a 9-5 job that does exactly what you say - it saps the life out of me. If I'm lucky I'll find a few hours in a weekday evening in which to do something, if I'm not already exhausted.

I hope NSS3's doing well. And there's that utterly fantastic guy who did the Northern Irish league. He rocks.

Welcome! I know EXACTLY how you feel, apart from the just buying a house bit. If you are indeed in the UK, you must be feeling the house price boom pretty badly.

Heh, cheers guys. Yes, the price of a 2 bedroom flat is quite ridiculous and as Jack says, things would be a lot easier if the dollar to pound rate wasn't so bad. I did suggest moving to China, but the missus wasn't having it! Still, i think i can get by on a minimum of 5 sales a day.
