Red face Game suggestions for my girlfriend?

    Hello,

My girlfriend likes games, but only particular kinds of games. I suggested to her that I might start a thread to see if anyone knows of any other games which she might like. It's a tricky business, and there are some hefty criteria.

Are you up to the challenge?

Games she likes, and possible reasons behind the liking:
    • Tetris (NES)
      • Intense competition about high scores. She didn't just beat me, she beat me by an order of magnitude.
    • Zoo Keeper (DS)
      • It's cute.
      • Competition about high scores.
    • Assorted 2 player racing games (PS2)
      • Direct 2 player competition.
    • Mario Kart (GBA)
    • Konami Krazy Racing (GBA)
    • Puyo Fever (Dreamcast)
      • 2 Player competition.
      • It's cute.
      • It's the Japanese version, and she likes Japanese things.
    • Yoshi's Island (GBA)
      • It's cute.
As far as I can tell, the common theme is "games you can learn in a minute", and if she can compete with me it's a bonus.

She took great delight in completely pushing me off the high score table in Zoo Keeper, although she has yet to move onto the other game modes. From this, I suspect that she doesn't like changing a game once she's mastered it.

There are also loads of games she doesn't like, even though she's not played them:
    • RPGs
      • Too much story.
      • No clear instructions.
      • Zelda - "Turn left at the red mushroom" (I can't remember that part).
    • Shooting games
      • Too violent.
      • Non-realistic 2D shmups are a possibility.
        • Especially cute ones.
          • Maybe Parodius.
            • She loves cats.
              • But probably not shooting at cats.
She hates games with big stories, and ones where there are no clear directions about what the player is supposed to do. Exploration games are probably out.

It's quite hard to get her to try new things, but maybe if I've got just the right game I could do it. She's getting a laptop soon, and I'd love to get her a good game to play on it.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks for your help,
    Pete

Hm. If Dudester wasn't broken I might suggest that which is a mix of various different things. The broken bit is the scoring :/

Strange Adventures in Infinite Space of Big Box Of Blox might do it for her.

    Damn, must stop posting.

    Platypus!

Two Player and cute. My girlfriend sounds a lot like yours in her gaming tastes, and she loves Platypus

You should also consider Feeding Frenzy or Insaniaquarium, another of my girlfriend's favourites.

She might like our game, Professor Fizzwizzle.

We've had lots of users give us feedback saying, "My girlfriend loves it, too!" Or, "My fiance wants me to buy her her own copy!" etc.

I love that kind of feedback

    SHE. WILL. LOVE. KATAMARI DAMACY.

No question. I have not seen anyone, male or female who doesn't like Katamari Damacy. It is the only game I've ever seen that *everyone* that's seen it (in my presence) likes, and wants to play more, including my female complete non-gamer friends who basically abhor all games.

    You won't be sorry.

Aw, Hiro beat me to it

Seriously, from the list of games she likes, I cannot imagine her not liking Katamari Damacy. It's just so clever and happy and fun.

    Exclamation

Get her hooked on World of Warcraft... even though you bought it for yourself and are the one paying the account... and before long she will be hogging 'the good computer', using all your bandwidth, sleeping all day and playing all night to line up time zones, bitching to you about the epic that dropped but someone else got even though it wasn't for their class... and you are stuck with your level 10 priest that you never have a chance to play.

Yeh.. maybe it's good your gf doesn't like RPGs.

Let me tell you, she even took my computer chair! Small flat you see, so I found myself at her feet, using a computer on the floor.
