    So unless the potential pirate is blind, he'll just skip to the "normal" crack site and get a virus... ehm a crack for your game

    Putting myself in the mind of a pirate, my thoughts might be:

    Meh. I just pirated a copy. Am I going to all of a sudden feel guilty now because you frown at me? Maybe I don't consider it a "small amount of cash".

    If anything, it might just piss people off that they are now glad they pirated. Sillysoft's version was good because it treated the potential criminal as a decent human being. "You haven't done anything wrong yet, and I would just like to take this opportunity to tell you that you shouldn't. In fact, paying for the game is easiest and safest for you. The benefits of buying outweigh the risks of pirating. Whaddaya say?"

    I don't agree with the implied idea that pirating $600 software from a larger company is justified more than pirating $15 software from a small company, though. But hey, it's marketing, and if it is a concern in the minds of real potential pirates, then appeal to that concern.
