This is weirdly funny and sweet at the same time--a nice moment for me that makes it all worth it.
A lady bought my game yesterday because it was the last day that she could get a free 1-year membership to the online service that goes with the game. She didn't want to activate the membership right away, but preferred to wait a few months so that the she could get 1 year starting in August. This was a bit irritating for me, since it would cause some extra trouble for me to activate it later. So I told her I'd just give her a 14-month membership now. I was in a bitter mood right then for some other reasons, but I'm glad I showed a bit of generosity.
I learned the reason she wanted the membership to start in August is that it's her wedding anniversary, and next year, when the membership runs out in August, she wants her husband to buy another 1-year subscription for a 2006 anniversary gift.
How cute is that?

Heh. It's not uncommon for men to give a chainsaw or a hammer for wedding anniversary gift (and you can guess how much women would want those - not at all)... but for woman actually to ask this kind of gift... heh

I think it's sweet. It goes to show, never have a knee jerk reaction. Part of being the boss means you can show a bit of heart which will give you repeat custom I think.
This is very much in contrast to Cas' posted customer issues. Perhaps puzzle games attract a more thoughtful audience?![]()

Figuring out the way a woman thinks is almost as impossible as the secret ingredient that makes a game SELL!!![]()
But that's kinda sweet tho!!![]()
All the best
Mark.
Yeah, only psychos buy my stuff.
I wish my wife asked me for computer games for anniversary gifts instead of £2300 diamond platinum rings.

Yeah, because THOSE are useful. I'm so happy my wife is sane about that sort of thing.I wish my wife asked me for computer games for anniversary gifts instead of £2300 diamond platinum rings.
Yeah, my wife is cool about that kinda stuff cool. "You bought me jewelry?! WTF am I gonna do with jewelry?" Last year for her birthday, I bought her 16 Xbox games. She loved it. This year, 8 DVDs. She's a doll to buy for!Originally Posted by princec

My wife would rather we spend the money on things like vacations in Vegas or a new TV than a useless rock on her finger.![]()
One concession my wife made is that she'll accept synthetic diamonds. We both agreed it's good not to support the DeBeers cartel. Now if I could convince her that since DVDs and CD-ROMs are also shiny and pretty, they are just as good and even better than stupid rocks...

Hmmm... I've found the the really really tricky thing in fact is somehow staying single. How do people do it? Seems I'm always tripping over someone and finding myself suddenly embroiled in a relationship I'm not sure how I got into and is getting too serious too fast and I'm not sure how to escape. I've taken to using a number of pseudonyms and never giving out my telephone number, address, or even the correct city and country if I can avoid it. That's helped a lot.

HehHeh. Then there must be something that is attracting all those clingy women your way. Is it your programming skills?Originally Posted by svero
Staying single is easy: just spend more time with your computer. And when the phone or doorbell rings, don't answer it. Could be some she-devil coming by to seduce you!

Or worse. She could be wanting to talk to you about your day while you are coding, reading the newspaper, gaming, watching tv, or otherwise engaged in a single-threaded activity.Originally Posted by ErikH2000

I had a terrible time with women. Very shy and immature around them, like I'd get flushed and sweaty asking someone out. At one point, I just decided it was something I had to force myself to do or I'd end up terribly lonely. For a long time, I was just telling myself that the right girl would appear one day and everything would work out, but if you're one of those geeky wallflower types like me, it's a delusion. I had notions like this until my late twenties, and then I just had to wake up. Once I took dating seriously, like a job, then things got better quickly. I think in the heydey, I was spending something like 40 hours a week with internet dating sites, answering e-mails, and setting up dates. The process was a lot like marketing a game actually. Well, the first part of it anyhow. Hmmm, and getting turned down for a date hurts a lot more than getting turned down for an affiliate deal.

Well looks like that the problem of men and women getting into problems while sharing a gift between each other or when it comes to individual choices would never end. Both have a different perspective and these things are bound to happen.
