Over the past few months, instead of sleeping, I've been spending my nights on creating an asset package for Unity 3D =) If you are making a space themed game in Unity this may be something of interest to you.

Basically, it's a space scene construction kit allowing you to create unique space scenes for your game(s). It comes with hundreds of textures (up to 4096x4096, but you decide what resolution you need) and scenes with stars, nebulas, galaxies, planets, moons, and asteroids are automatically generated.

I'll be releasing a 2D construction kit in the future as well that dynamically builds flat environments too for infinite panning (side scrollers for example)... but for the time being you could use it for that purpose. For the intro sequences of the video I just used the included template, generated a scene and disabled the renderer for the space ship to capture the footage. Or you could just use a mouselook script and you'd get loads of unique pictures for your game in a matter of minutes.

Just tried it on my Samsung Galaxy S3:


Works really well. I get 40-50 fps with tons of alpha faded particle effects (1000+ small to very large particles) and bumpmapped high detailed asteroids (200 visible) and visual effects.

With tweaking settings (fewer particles and fewer visible asteroids and the lower polygon versions of the asteroid and planet for example) I think it is very usable, but probably for modern phones.

Without any particle effects, just the background, I'm not sure about the performance. My phone caps at 60fps with vertical sync so I can't see how much overhead there is at the moment.

I'm sure it could be tweaked for lesser phones but still nice :-)

Will definitely be putting my $50 down when it's released, it'll save a ton of time.
