Default Cyclo Logic Looking For New Team Members

    Greetings,
Our team is currently looking to expand.
Cyclo Logic Studios is a volunteer-based group, producing a freeware game.

We are currently developing an online 3d action product and eventually add RPG elements.
To summarize in a few words our first demo releases will feature a relatively small online 'map', and p.-v.-p. sword combat (action oriented).
Our writers are also working hard toward the next 'step' of our project which has plans to include real world values and feelings in a fictional land.

The project client executable is using C++ and DirectX 9.0c.
The project target minimum hardware is p.s. (pixel shader) 2.0 supporting systems.
The project was not started yesterday, some of us have been working on it since late 2003.
The project already has a fair list of features:
Dynamic sky/shadow system, parralax mapping, reflective/refractive water,
per pixel light, etc. for graphics. Basic collision, basic network.
video, Sound, time, input, config management.
continous loads, robust and strong culling algoritmes, triagulation optimizations algoritmes.
And so much more.. as you see the programming team is focusing and taking time to do things right.
Some screenshots can be found in our dump. *56k warning.

The team at the moment consist of 10 members. (only 8 listed on site)
Please visit our website for more details, or directly the team page.

We are currently in need of some assitance in these various departments :

    Server Programmer :
    - The server application is using c++, gdi, raknet, and mysql++.
    - Were looking for someone to take charge in the Server development.
    - No experience with gdi or mysql++ is needed as the lead programmer handled those.
    - Resonably high experiece with c++ and networking (and idealy raknet) will be required.
    - Must be willing to take challenge on a regular base.
    - Must be able to keep up with the programming team.
    - This is not a position for the faint of heart.
    - We are also only looking for a 'very' active type of person for this spot.

    Rig Animator :
    - We are looking for someone to create a (one) ik chain rig.
    - and to create a (one) set of animations.
    - No mater the format, we will handle it.

    3D Character Modeler :
    - Even if we do have a character modeler in our staff,
    - We would probably be interested to get a second.
    - Currently only 3ds max exporters are completed but whatever format you will use, we will deal with it.

    3D non Character Modeler :
    - Someone who can create 3d objects usind 3dmax from simple to complex.
    - Experince is key as well as consciousness for performace (low vertex count).
    - Currently only 3ds max exporters are completed but whatever format you will use, we will deal with it.

    Level Designer (Builder) :
    - We are looking for someone to assist our lead designer in the creation of the game structures/buildings.
    - We are using gtkradiant.
    - however we are not using the BSP technique, so less rules apply.

    Level Designer (Texturer) :
    - We are looking for someone to assist our lead designer in the texturing of the game structures/buildings.
    - We are using gtkradiant.

    Texture Artist. :
    - We are looking for someone to create textures for various elements of the game.
    - Experience with depth/normal maps is a plus, however we supply a bunch of handy tools for this.

    UI Designer. :
    - We are looking for someone to design to User Interface and produce the necessary data.
    - We have a "start" the UI Designer is free to either continue on it, or start a new.

    Sound Engineer/Artist. :
    - We are looking for someone to help out of current Sound Engineer/Artist with the production of sounds and music.
    - We are using audiere.
    - It supports several formats but we would prefer to stick to ogg vorbis liscence.

    Game design. :
    - We are looking for someone to design the final stages of the project.
    - This includes : designing a rules set, working closely with level designers and several more.
    - Some technical and programming knowledge is preferrable.
    - some past experience is preferrable.
    - We are also only looking for a 'very' active type of person for this spot.

    Concept Artist. :
    - We are looking for someone to create various concept art.
    - We are looking for someone who wont vanish in a week
    - Sorry for the obvious, but it seems very problematic with this position.

Please remember that we are a very serious team and
we are looking for people who will stay for the long run,
that has free time in their hands and will apply them selves.
If you're married with 4 kids with a job and school,
don't worry we understand if you pass up this offer

If you wish to contact us please email us at info@cyclologic.com.
Thank you for reading and we hope to hear from you.

I'd say this is not the right forum to post this. You'd think 'Help Wanted' is, but the description reads:

Post ads for paid positions here. No ads for volunteers please. Paid positions only.
Note that these boards are mainly intended to the business side of being indie (although there is a technical forum) so people usually look for people to hire or people that hire him/her, not volunteers.

I think GameDev.Net fits better your request.

Well there may be serious groups of people looking for volunteers, and I don't really have any particular problem with people getting together to work on something they believe in.

The main problem with volunteer positions is that it doesnt require any investment to ask someone to help you out for free and so anyone can do it. Serious people and err... shall we say less serious people. I just didnt want to see the help wanted section turn into a bunch of ..

"Hey i had this great idea i just need a programmer and i guess some artists to work out some of the smaller insignificant bits like development and art"

...posts. Which I believe is what you would get, although worded a little less obviously. And if the forum filled with this sort of thing then it would be a less useful resource.

I apologize in advance, but you must be either insane or extremely young and naive to think that anyone with real skills would do any of the above for free. If you are serious and looking for serious people, be ready to pay some serious money.

By the looks of your list, you pretty much need a whole team to build a game, be ready to spend $250,000 + on a team like that if you want anything close to a finished project, never mind the quality.

    Nice try though.

Well the team has been working for 2 years so far and has produced alot in the way of the game engine and toold to help produce required 'things' in game, including the Paralex Mapping system which is used to keep our model's poly count low without loosing noticable detail.
We have what we need to make the game and our first Demo will be out soon, we are just in need of more people to speed up the developing of our game. The team its self does not get paid untill the game/team makes its own money, but i assure you this is no:

"Im a 12 y/o i whnt to maek a game but i have no idae wht im doin so cud u hlp me pls, oh btw i dreamt about ths lst nite"

We are a serious team we have had over 50 members over the past 2 years and we have kicked out many of them due to insufficient work.

I think what Dima was getting at is that for such intense work it would be hard to recruit people for free. It sounds like a nice project, but most the people here have finances as a motivator for their games. I think they were right when they said a place like GameDev would be more suitable. Most the people here are looking to sell their games online, thus most of the people here probably won't be interested in an offer that will require a lot of work and not have any potential for income.

Sounds like you have your head screwed on right, but I think your barking up the wrong tree.

    Good Luck !
Please assume I am playing devils advocate whenever I say anything...

My worst fear is that someone will actually believe I have any experience and do what I say...

Never underestimate what people will do for free... working on free projects can get you in many doors you otherwise would never see opened. Have a look at Red Orchestra, for example.

Id also like to point out we have ads on other community forums including GameDev.net, OnGameDev.net and Onrpg.com/net (forgotten which as i did not place this add)

Thanks for the replies ill keep checking here to see if anyone responds to the add but i will not post a thread again due to the points shown by other members of these forums who seem to know this community more than me.

    Thank You all the same.
