what i was going to ask is this ( 7 day posting thing so i cant but ill show you what i wanted to say)

Being a Developer is one thing, you create your game project, you develop it and get it to a stage that you belive you have something viable to the gaming world, but then you hit a black spot, you know how to make a game but then what to do with it.
This is the stage I'm at now, I have developed my own project but don't know what to do with it, could you advice me what one does next, how do I get people interested in this, how do I get publisher backing and bring my project further.Im at a loss as what to do next.
    http://www.planetunreal.com/alteredstate
Here is my site and tell me what you think.

Sub note some downloads links are broken but can be accessed through the news page.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Im at a loss as what to do next, im doing this game, and i know how to make one, but what next how to take it to the next level, i know how to make a game but im in the cold about how one advances next. any advise and comments welcome please,

Regards Dean Avanti- Avanti Vita studios.

    Hello,

That was an interesting video, it didnt make much sense but it was very interesting !

Your are obviously very passionate about what you are doing and that is just so fantastic. Your webpage is cool, your video is interesting and you have obviously put a lot of work into your game idea.

You say that you know how to make a game but I have a feeling that perhaps you do not have much experience at this. I think the best idea would be to get that experience, to work in the games industry for a few years and build up a network of contacts which you can work with.

Your video and webpage would make an ideal supplement when applying for jobs in the games industry. I would suggest applying to games companies and pointing out your work on altered state as part of your application.

    Anyway that's what I think

    If you go here.
sub note, ( not everything is shown on the resources/ about 1000 texmaps are missing, 600 being just shaders)
    http://www.planetunreal.com/altereds...esources1.html
and here for the BSP maps, all made by myself
    http://www.planetunreal.com/altereds...esources2.html

have a look round the site, you sound like you have missed sections

you will see a lot of assets for the game, you will see a name a the top of each set of assets, the name is who made them, you will see my name next to virually everything, infact the only thing you will see on the site bthat is not done by me is, music, 10 characters 12 guns and that it, everything else is all done by me, and also that there is a hell of a lot of assets as well, more than enogh for a big foot in for a commercial game.

I dont want to work as a designer in the industry, infact i turned down a Lead Level designer post a year and a half ago for Pipe Dream Interactive on their game Advent Rising, which has just shiped at the moment, i hear the game is advitised in the cinema before the new Star Wars film which is cool, i wonder if that is in the UK as well, not just US release, ill check it when i go see the movie.
What i want to do is get this game through the door.
And i want to know what to do about that.

On the film, click the link at my first post on this forum.
ill copy and paste - here it is.

Is the game finished, or does it still need (a lot of) work? Are you hoping to sell the game to a publisher or studio, or do you want to self-publish? It would be useful to have some indication about what your goals and expectations are.

A tip: Fix up your spelling and grammar. Your posts are kinda hard to read. Badly structured text will scare people away; it makes you come across as amateuristic. Ditto for the language errors in the demo video (which looked very interesting, by the way). Just a friendly tip.

With a professional team the game could be done very very quickly, i find that using part time modders to be quite slow, though i feel that if pushed i could lay my hands now on the better quality community modders or perhaps bring in those that work in the industry but are prepared to wait work on a project that gives a promise of payment at a later date that is if they were interested in the concept of the game.
Though I would like to have everyone in one studio to make this working full time, the problem of working with people in the typical 'mod style' fashion with people working from home is that this is a game for profit with assets that have value, by sending these assets to team members these assets could be distributed over the net or even sold, if i have a team in a studio the assets do not leave the building, to do this i need a studio in a building and to employ a team to work in this location, this is why i feel i need publisher funds to do this, that is unless i have a publisher with an internal developer, something that would be possible if i was signed to a publisher with that capability, of note was that pipe dream interactive are an internal developer of Majesco the publisher, the guy who contacted me about the job with PDI told me to get in contact with them when i am at a stage of development looking for publishing, that person must of left the company as i tried his mail address but the message was returned so I'm presuming he has left the position he had, i can get contact addresses of the publisher but the internal development house does not have its contact adresses.Of note is that the internal developer has just shipped its title and may be free if they have not picked up another title ( they use the same engine as i do so that would be convenient)
I could finish it with people from the unreal community but the problem is i don't want to send out my assets to people i take on, it has taken a hell of a lot of time and effort to create these and i don't want them going astray, also i want to finish this quickly, with an experienced time the game could be done very quickly indeed and this is something i would like, but if push comes to shove i can finish this without publisher help, I've got this far with a budget of nothing, and i can finish it, it just adds a lot more stress and hassle, plus risk with my assets being posted to people which i consider a hell of a risk.

On the grammar in my posts, i send out a hell of a lot of communication and so have little time to spare, i have to have a practical aproach to what i do, i work too hard to spare excess time on grammar niceties in forum posts.
though bad grammer and spelling on the site is too be avoided, as that indeed would look bad, though sense would see the volume of work i put out and would have to respect that, give me a few thousand tex maps and few hundred static meshes over pleasant Ps and Qs, you can not make a game with the later.

links to forums and news web sites that developers visit would be handy also, im sure there must be a forum or place that developers show their projects, there are so many publishers that emailing them all would take forever. There must be a place that developers have as a stage for their projects.
