    Default Dutch Indie Meet-up

There are several indie game developers from The Netherlands who frequent this board. It might be nice to meet in real life. Have a drink somewhere, maybe some food, and chat about our experiences as indie game makers. Just an informal get-together. I'm sure we can all learn a thing or two from each other. Let me know whether you're interested (or not). How, where, and when are all open for discussion.

    Default Good idea

    Hi Mathijs,

I think it's a nice idea. I'd be in for it anyway.
If there are more folks out there who'd like to come.

Well, that makes 5 of us. Good.

I also posted a notice in the ASP games newsgroup because there are a few Dutch game developers who are members of the ASP that may not be visiting here. So maybe we can get some of these folks to come too.

Place: Somewhere that is easy for everyone to reach. I live in Breda, which is a little out of the way. Utrecht or Amsterdam sounds nice, but it all depends on where everyone lives and the type of transportation available. I have no car, so some place with a train station would be nice.

Date: Preferably on a sunny day. I don't know when everyone's available or specifically not available, due to work, family, or other commitments. Personally, I can make time any day of the week.

    So, make your suggestions.

P.S. I suppose we can do this in Dutch now...

We could do this in Dutch, but it's an English message board, so I'll stick to that language.

I agree with Matthijs that Utrecht would be a good place to meet. The fact that I live in Utrecht might have something to do with that. Usually, I can make time any day of the week, so that shouldn't be a problem.

I agree on selecting a place near or in Utrecht.
However... I live in Oosterbeek, have an office at home with all the facilities and a seperate room for meetings, parkingplace and a trainstation on 200 meters.....

And if the weather permits, we could make a nice stroll through the woods/park/former battlefield etc.

IMHO the purpose of this meeting is to:

    get to know each other
    discuss/show our products
    discuss/show working habits/capabilities
    discuss marketing methods/experiences

Thanks for the offer, Steven. Personally, I'd prefer to hang out in a pub, but meeting at your place is fine with me too (even though it's a longer journey ).

I agree on the topics you mentioned, but I would emphasize on the "getting to know each other" part. Hanging out with likeminded people can be a real morale booster. I have done meetings like this before with people who share a common interest but had never seen each other before, and it's always a lot of fun.

About the time: I guess there is no point in waiting. Personally, I'd prefer to meet on a weekday, since a city like Utrecht tends to be very busy in the weekends. I would suggest next week or so, but I would really like to hear from the others as well.

So, Martin and Mike, what do you think?

Not that I'm in The Netherlands, but my brother-in-law is Dutch and I've been there. Is it true that Dutch programmers subsist mainly on roti and McKrokets?

Any place reachable by train/bus is fine, I live in Nijmegen.

At the moment I do have quite a busy schedule with rehearsals/concerts (especially weekends), best day for me would be a monday (any time) or other week days (morning/afternoon).

So... just to let you know: I haven't forgotten about this and it's something I still would like to do (and I hope others as well ), but I've very been busy lately with other stuff. Maybe we can pick a date later this summer...

    Hi,

Yes I would also still like to come. However, I am always very busy.
I can only come after work (after 18u, excluding travel-time) or in the weekend (which time doesn't matter much). Anyway, I have to know in time.

    regards,
    Martin

Yes, sometime later this summer would be fine (after 21st of July I'm back from vacation). For me, the time / day of the week doesn't matter.
