Default Anyone attending the Global Game Jam on Friday

Wanted to see if anyone was planning on attending the Global Game Jam on Friday. http://globalgamejam.org/ It's in its third year and I went last year and it was a blast. It was a great experience making a game in under 48 hours.

Check the site and see if someone has organized a Jam site near you. There's 174 sites world wide that will be participating. I'll be attending the one in Salt Lake City (http://globalgamejam.org/node/9180). It's going to be awesome!

Yep I'm doing it in Vancouver. It's a great learning exercise, and fun, and good for networking.

They do an awful job of getting the word out (though to be fair, seems like they don't need to). I subscribe to every indie/game dev news feed I can find and I never hear about them until it's like TOMORROW. Oh well …

You need to follow more developers on Twitter. I seem to hear every peep about it (including the recent Intel Cash Incentives).

I'm participating at the GMU campus in Fairfax, Virginia. I'm looking forward to working with a team. All my past effort have been solos.

I'll probably go solo for this one unless I can find a decent artist.

Turns out you can't go solo as the aim is to make a team, so I was part of a team of 5: 3 programmers and 2 artists. I also did sound and another programmer did the music.

We finished our game on time and submitted it. http://globalgamejam.org/2011/invasi...ia-outer-space We are pleased with the end result. It has bugs and some issues, but hey it's a 48-hour jam! It was made in Flash using Flashpunk. The theme was Extinction.

    I participated in a group of 6 - 1 artist, 1 designer, 3 coders and a sound guy.

We had the lofty goal of making a Kinect enabled 3d multiplayer game.

We actually made it - and it was most fun to play the evil publisher robot smashing the indie developers.

But fantastic what you can make in 48 hours.

I was on a big team as well... it's playable.. sort of.. meh: http://globalgamejam.org/2011/space-exodus I did programming and sound effects.

I was disappointed, honestly. The organization into groups was pure chaos. One team had three composers on it?!? I had hopes of learning and gaining some experience or insight into the development process. Instead I saw what happens in college, groups of strangers don't suddenly work well together. I'll probably skip it next year.

I've got to confess that the 4 hours of time wasting speeches and ice-breaking exercises at the beginning annoyed a lot of us who just wanted to get on and code. I actually would have been happy to go solo, or just team up with one artist. In the end our team worked out OK, although it was a bit complicated to find a proper role for everyone.

So to get it out my system I'm going to do a solo gamejam at home over the next couple days at my new standing desk.

I think is up to the local organizer. I went solo on my project. My goal was a little different than most, as I was trying to learn the Corona SDK (iPhone stuff), and I wanted a big block of time to try it out. I thought the Global Games Jam would be a good place to do that (as you can kind of feed off the energy of those around you). It was loads of fun and I'm glad I participated.

My little game isn't very playable, but it was a good learning experience. My game was called "Destroy All Newmans".
