Lightbulb Defend Against Zombies - a 3D Tower Defence game (Win/Lin/OSX)

Hi guys, here's a playable demo of a game of mine. 3 Tower types and one level. I would be interested to hear your feedback as to how I could make it better.

    Video:

    Downloads:
    Windows:

    Linux:

    Mac OSX:

This game uses Java , the windows version will prompt you to install it if it detects you don't have it.

    Cheers!

Update: fixed downloads, OSX and Linux versions now have defend.sh already executable.
p.s have replied to feedback - thanks, but my post is awaiting moderation...

I gave it a try because I love tower defense games.

Looks like a good start. Things I noticed:

It took several minutes to load, and at first I wasn't sure it hadn't locked up. The brown pixelly texture of the ground (gravel?) makes it difficult to see zombies. I also noticed that when zombies die they tend to teleport about ten feet away from where they were to do their dying animation.

Seems kind of silly that machine gun turrets are firing repeatedly into zombies and they're just taking it. From the sound effects and size of the guns, I'd expect the zombies to be cut in half.

    Looking forward to upgradable towers.

I got a java error log text output when I quit the game, even though from my point of view nothing crashed. If you want me to send it, just let me know.

Sorry about the slow load, It's slow to load at the moment because i'm preloading a lot. I need to optimise this.

Brown pixelly ground: yeah that is fair comment, I will work on it. The teleporting when dead is a bug on my bug list.

I'll probably rebalance the towers once I have a few more, I see what you mean about what kind of damage you'd expect.

The error output at the end is a bug i've seen too, on my list.

Thanks for your feedback Maupin, much appreciated

Never got past 70% "loading zombies". Gave up waiting after a minute. I think you need to fix that...

Didn't play the game but watched the video. Honestly, far too slow paced, not enough zombies and not enough gore. Also, I think you need to have human survivors instead of gun turrets.

Gave this a go because i like tower defence games.
Never played a 3d one though.
    I thought it worked well.

+1 on the loading screen issue
Need to use a thread for the loading so you can show some changing text or an animation to engage the person during loading the game. Maybe show some of your zombie models moving.

+1 on the brown pixelly texture of the ground issue

A top down 2d map showing empty turret stands would be good.

Pre-set 3d views - clicking a button/pressing key gets you view from each turret, top down view, view down the main path the zombies came from.

Health bar for zombies, could not make out if i was killing them.

Good work, you will have a solid level after an update.
