$9.95/mo - *honestly* unlimited bandwidth.
Had over 150,000 game downloads alone and never heard a complaint.

Do people here have any consensus opinion on good webhosting?
I ask because my hosting provider chose today, which has been by far my biggest in terms of ad exposure and downloads, to go completely dark. The provider is large enough that I really doubt my traffic increase had anything to do with them going down, but man oh man, how frustrating! Really bad timing for me.
Anything up to about $50 a month is fine. I'd go even higher ($75 or so) if I knew they were ultra, ultra reliable. Bandwidth usage isn't super important since I host my demo on filekicker.
I haven't completely given up on my provider -- maybe this is just a totally random one-time thing, but I'd like to have a plan to migrate my website off and onto something else (that has good word of mouth among indies, preferably) if this should happen again.

If you PM me with what you are looking for maybe we when can work out a custom plan for you.
Yeah... I don't see any unlimited plan there. Someone posted in a similar thread on Dex a pair of hosts each under $10 a month that did like 70 Gigs and 150 Gigs (5 a day).
After going through about 3 different hosts, I finally tried pair.com and I haven't had a problem since then. Haven't seen my site go down once so far, and their email support is good. They even have phone support, though I haven't tried it so I can't say how good it is. It's more pricey then most hosts you'll find (I'm paying $30/month, with 30 gigs of bandwidth) but I've learned the hard way that you get what you pay for. It's probably the best shared hosting solution you'll find. As Mike Boeh mentioned in a thread at the old forums, VPS (virtual private servers) are a good alternative to shared hosting. VPS packages start at $40-50, and you get a dedicated portion of a server with pretty good bandwidth limits.

pair.com has a very good reputation. Expensif but very good.Originally Posted by Valen
I use imhosted now but will probably change. They offer a good package but the billing and service is bad. I have open tickets from a year ago still pending so I would not recomend them.
I have looked around for a host myself. I found http://www.lunarpages.com . They have a plan 80GB of transfer for 22.95/month. They have a very good, very active forum for support, and the standard phone, email support. They have been listed on several 'top' web hosting sites and I have got recommendations from quite a few people.
Also, you can go to http://www.webhostingtalk.com and talk to some people there.
We use them and I must say - you get what you pay for. We've had a number of minor issues with their server, some stuff simply doesn't work and we had to work around it, and they occasionally reset something on the servers causing ownership/permissions on some files to be reset to defaults, which messes up some of our scripts.Originally Posted by GameStudioD
I guess cheapo hosting is just cheapo hosting, and if you need something reliable you should get a dedicated server. I certainly look forward to the day we make the switch.
