Thread: Art Feedback - Break the Bank

Default Art Feedback - Break the Bank

    Hello,

My first app, Break the Bank, is currently in the iPhone apps store. I've never been very happy with the quality of the artwork. I'm currently in the process of trying to find an artist to reface the game. I'm interested to see if anyone has any ideas for possible themes for the reface.

Here is a link to the game with some screenshots

    Thanks.

    You need better graphics.

More refined, less blurry pixel images.

Better cohesion on level of detail, style, get a pallet in there.

For a reskin, I think you can break the grid image and just have rows of objects, better font, a cohesive style and sharper images.

The art has a lot of problems, and the lack of quality is going to hurt your sales. It may very well be a well-coded game, and if so it's sad that it doesn't have the proper love an artist could provide.

Did you do the art yourself? If so, it's pretty good for programmer art. It shows what you're looking for such that an artist could easily re-skin it and make it beautiful.

If you paid for the art, the artist should be fired and have his artistic license taken away. =)

Partner with a good artist if you can. Are they really that rare?

I hope this doesn't sound harsh. I just see that and wish I had time to clean it up and make it pretty. I've gone through so many hoops trying to get my first games completed. It hurts to see a product actually ship that was just an artist away from looking great.

I'm guessing is a lot of your art came from either a stock photo/image site or you just stole them from google images. The white pixels on the edges are a dead give away. The piggy bank has obviously been scaled up from it's original size.

Overall - yes get a real artist asap.

Ok... after all the suggestions to get an artist I won't repeat it... it's a given and you already know that by the way you posted.

I had a look at the screens - I didn't buy the app [which now that I am writing the reply I am wondering why] - so I can only guess the gameplay... Besides the art issues I find the theme rather uninteresting... and going with the golden lettering and the old fashioned background it just doesn't stand out at all... "breaking the bank"... mmmmh... I get to see a couple of piggie banks... can this be fun? Enough thinking out loud... You asked for an idea for different theming... Here's a quick - after-dinner - mock of the 1st screenshot.

I tried to add more variations for the game elements and it would be cool to animate them and have a cool effect when you "mutate" a blob with the injection...

Hahaha, yeah needs some fine tuning but the basic idea is nice. Some more naked dudes with spears would be cool too.

thinking about it, Nexic... I think the artist struggled with the true essence of the scene and it really should have been like this:

Wow that is hilarious, so good! I love the poles with the little hands on them! Seriously, OP you should pursue this path because art like this will make people take notice and try your game!

    Default Great Feedback

Thank you all very much for the feedback.

The art was originally done at 240x320 and 16 color. It was meant for a regular cell phone game which never shipped. I resized most of the gameplay elements to 480x320, tried my best to make it less pixelated and supplied some of the art myself (the bonus round).

Daydream, you truly are amazing. Very creative. I like your vision of a company logo.

    Thank you all very much.
