Looking for a few recommendations for a cartoon artist. Preferably someone able to do graphic novel type stuff (ie a little more realistic and not just pure comic book/cartoon art if the need should arise) - It's for a number of story panels for a new game. (7-10 maybe? not sure)
I want someone talented, dependable, and someone I won't have to mortgage my house to work with.

There's a lot of good talent holed up at conceptart.com.

Also some really great talent at gfxartist.com. My band solicited quotes from several people there for CD cover art and as a group they were very responsive. We ended up hiring a French guy who did awesome work fairly quickly (he doesn't do cartoony stuff, but his handle on there is "kemar").
I'm still looking for someone. The artist site links are ok but I'd prefer to find someone somebody has worked with and can vouch for.

I can understand being wary of picking up some anonymous dude on the internet to work on your project, but there are a lot of pros on some of those sites and I'm sure they could provide you with references that you could check out.
Well i did go through and fire off a few emails

I'd recommend myself but I only meet the first criterion.I want someone talented, dependable, and someone I won't have to mortgage my house to work with.
I said cartoonist not claytoonist.

Ah, you misunderestimate me eh?
It's just word on the street man. They say.. take away his clay and... well there was some talk of you crying like a little baby!

LOL!Svero I must agree with Anthony here. He is a very good claytoonist (as you put it) especially after checking out platypus. I can say that if he can make that kind of graphics with clay he can make quite some good artwork with pen and paper!

Actually Anthony started as an illustrator/painter long before touching clay. (or so he claims!) I'm just kidding around.

Svero, meet Aneurin Wright.
This is the guy who did all of the art for The Witch's Yarn. I like him a lot. He has a great range of work, not just toons. You'll find him at:

What
there's still people doing those fluffy anime stuff.
Well I haven't been working with pencils for a whole year now.
but how much are some of you willing to pay for it?![]()
It's a real contract that will pay real money at reasonable rates. I just need to see a portfolio and then discuss a time estimate with the artist. I honestly don't know the "going rates" so I'm getting a feel by looking at a number of artists. It seems to vary quite a bit.

But what kind of art are you looking for anyway?
Anime, western comics style, big nose and 4 fingers, realistic etc etc?
I keep wondering if he already has a writer lined up...
Do you have any examples of what you were looking for?
I can send you a portfolio of work (website is a while yet away) and have good references. The last cartoon work I did was for Void War as Character Designer, so Coyote can vouch for me in that respect.
I am pretty busy now though, since I have one AAA contract for concept art until early February, and possibly more in the works, so how fast it comes will depend on how much you need. Let us know if you're interested.
Cheers,
Paul.
The story element is so light that it won't require much talent in the writing dept. It's really just a progress placement thing. Enough to make the player curious and see where they're at in the game but nothing you want a book version of.Originally Posted by DavidRM

With regards to style I'm looking for fairly mainstream cartoon (almost kids book) bright colorful friendly stuff. I'm not looking for superhero comics style or really serious anime style. I'm looking for more mainstream middle of the road disney-like cartoon/comic style.
