W00t. I just read the democracy 2 review in UKs PC Gamer magazine and it got 80%, the third highest score in the magazine, 1% behind Aquaria, and 4% below Armageddon empires. It's a glowing review too, and listed as a 'bargain'.
I'm dead pleased

Great stuff.
Did you notice a surge in downloads or sales when the magazine went out?
Awesome! *evil homer dance*

Sweet - so you'll be down at Hankies tomorrow night or was that a "virtual beer" that I can enjoy now?
All kidding aside, congratulations. Democracy seems like a great category for a designer/programmer to turn into a long term franchise.
Is this a sign of the times? I hope the "mainstream" gaming world is starting to realize that there's more to gaming than big guns, big boobs, and expensive system requirements.
Congrats on the review!![]()

The magazine isn't in stores yet AFAIK, I get a subscriber copy. I never noticed big sales spikes before, although this is my best review score so far. Still very welcome though.
That's awesome! You continue to inspire wannabes like me![]()
Wow, congratulations Cliffski!! More to follow hopefully. Keep up the good work.

Cool. Any scans?
Thats really awesome because when Invadazoid was in that mag it only got like 35% or something like that... so Congrats on the great score!
Congrats on the great mainstream review!

Nice -- one question though, how do you get magazines like that to review your games? Do they pick it up through press releases, do you send them copies, do they just see the game and decide to review it themselves, etc.?

Dude, I'm shocked they even reviewed you (and Aquaria)... That's fantastic! Maybe the mainstream media really is starting to take indie devs seriously...
Congrats on the score... Hopefully this results in some more sales![]()
Cheers, well it can't hurt I guess.

Cool article. I agree with what you are saying although I would say the strength of what we have in this little indie scene of ours... is that we can throw off the shackles. Democracy would have been hard pressed to be green-lit at any big shop I have worked at - too many mouths to feed. But if have the courage of your convictions, as a capable indie., you really can design and make any old (or, err, new) game you want and, we can define success in a way that big shops would define as dismal failure. I remember back in the days of SNES playing a little scroller and somebody said that the game only sold 5K units and we all rolled our eyes and pitied the folks who had lost their shirts... well, we all know that the #'s have only gotten worse for the big shops but most of us can finish and polish a game in a year and, if we get 5K units sold sold then we are doing fine.
yes, in fact 5k in a year is pretty damned good, if they are $20 sales direct.
Does any indie game sell 5k from its own site, though? I've only had 200 for my first shareware game's first 8 months, and I have the feeling even that may be higher than average.
