View Full Version : How to sign contract?

I've been offered a publishing contract on one of my earlier games. Now I've never ever signed a contract "digitally" before and my only question here is how it is practically done.

What it needed to make it legally working? An actual signature on an actual paper? Is it enough just typing your name in a Worddocument contract (as the case is now). Shouldn't it be a real signature to be a legal document?

I do trust the company, it's not that, but I just want to do it the right way and also learn for future cases.

Print a copy, sign it, fax it back then send a hard copy through the post (registered and signed for). Make sure you get a faxed and hardcopy back for your records. It's fine to proceed with a Heads of Agreement on the basis of a digital copy but since "digital" is such a grey area because of potential fraud and cross-border legal requirements I suggest you do it the old fashioned way :) If you are being pressured into doing it "digital" then I would ask yourself why.

Seriously, don't trust anyone - just read about some of the horror stories on here!

Guess you're right. I'll check them and hopefully get a little bit wiser :)

After some research (well two clicks on Google actually) I stubled upon this interesting article regarding the matter.

I guess it would be enough if this is the case.

Get a game industry lawyer to look over the contract and give advise for you.
