Has anyone here used either Google Pay, or PayPal in combination with Payloadz, or some other digital delivery service like it?

It seems like it could be a good way to sell games without paying much in fees, but I don't see too many games being sold this way so I was wondering if there are any downsides.

There's a clause in the Payloadz agreement that bothers me:

"You grant PayLoadz, Inc. a royalty-free, fully paid up, worldwide license to use (including, without limitation, the rights to: copy, distribute, transmit, publicly display, publicly perform, reproduce, edit, translate, sublicense and reformat Your Submission) Your Submission only in connection with the operation and promotion of PayLoadz"

If anyone here uses Google or PayPal to sell their games... how do you handle the delivery of the game?

Thanks

Forget PayLoadz. If you are a developer you should be able to easily find a script to handle PayPal IPN and make the necessary modifications to it and save significantly in processing fees. I don't know about Google Pay though.

Isn't this just the same service provided by other payment processors (Plimus, BMT Micro, etc.), but more expensive and with less flexibility in payment options? Or am I missing something here?

Payloadz seemed to be pretty cheap to me. If you pay ahead it can be as low as 2%. I haven't used either paypal or Google Pay, so I'm not sure how much effort it would be to write a script to do the same thing. If it's a pretty simple thing to do, that would be great.

Yeah, it's also only for US merchants -.-

Why would anyone outside of the music industry spell their product's name with a Z instead of an S? That always just feels cheap and unprofessional to me.

Because the domain name was available.

I'm pretty sure they're owned by PayPal... and yes, I bet the name was just available.

I don't think they're owned by Paypal. Check out the disclaimer at the bottom of their page.

Only for US merchants? That's no good! I can't find where it says that though.

Looking at the prices more closely, I guess they are fairly cheap if they don't charge any more than what's displayed openly; for a low volume of transactions they're charging the equivalent of 3%-6%, slowly reducing to 2%-5% as you get towards the $100,000-sales range.

Still, they do strike me as looking slightly dodgy and less flexible than other payment processors. Especially if you need to have a Paypal account to receive money - personally I don't trust Paypal much. They closed my first (and only) account for no good reason, taking the contents. Luckily it was only about 20 cents or something, because I was careful not to keep any money in there for more than about a day at a time.

Yeah... I decided not to go with them, because between the fees you would pay for a combination of PayLoadz and PayPal, it's not that much cheaper than BMT Micro, and some of the terms in their agreement just scare me. Also, it doesn't look like there are many game developers going with it, so I've decided to not take the road less traveled in this instance.

Thanks everyone for the input :)
