I know if you want to get hired... you put a portfolio in the repective thread, and if you're looking for help, you put it in the help wanted.
But what about someone who's willing to offer a free service? Where would that go?
I'm asking because I'd like to offer my creativity for free. Not Necessarily art or writing. Just some creative suggestions and ideas. Since that's not really all that taxing, I absolutely don't expect to get paid for it. So I don't really want to put that in the Help wanted thread...

The point is that generally speaking, everyone has ideas, it's implementing them that takes time :)

You could have posted in indie related chat. But it's kind of here in this forum now so maybe you could just elaborate on what you're offering in this thread.

Well... if someone is looking for a third-person suggestions/opinions, he/she doesn't need to "hire" anybody.
He/she just posts on various feedback forums (including this one).
If you want to help for free, just reply with your comments.
I believe this is exactly the place for this Knight.
So go ahead. What are your creative suggestions and ideas?

I mean like, assume the role of a video game designer. Not just have someone post a question like
"Should the elves be red? or Blue?"
But really free form creative ideas and such. It's kinda hard to explain. I suppose what I'm saying is that I'm lending out my imagination...

There's a website called stealmygamedesigns.blogspot.com.com where people post ideas for indie developers, free of charge. Maybe if you'd like to see your ideas come to fruition without getting commercial, you could go there.

Not to bag on the guy too much, but I read the first few "designs" he posted and they're worth what he's charging for them.

We need to stage an event called "Game Designer Idol".
(hey, do you think the movie industry has just as meny people come forth saying they "have movie ideas" and want other people to make the movies based on them?)

Bag on THIS guy? Because THIS guy hasn't posted any designs...

What he's saying is that he would like to join a development "team" and be a part of the game making process, but his particular skill sets are not currently in demand.
I really don't see anything wrong with that, after all it's the same impulse that drove many of us to do what we're doing today.
Would that it were enough.
Well RustyKnight you could do a search through your local area and see if there's any proper games companies close to where you are and then send them letters asking to do work experience there. I've a feeling that in this day and age though there's not so much chance of that happening.
If it's the indie game scene you want to be involved in then you'll have to realise that you're young with no real marketable talents, yet. Which I imagine is why you're willing to give away your services for free. There's articles out there on becoming a game designer on various sites. I've seen them linked to from these forums so go seek them out and read them. (Sorry I don't have the links here). If you want to see your ideas being made into games then one of the best things you can do is learn how to make games yourself. There's a lot more people out there with ideas than with the ability to implement them. You already have the artistic talent and ideas after all and there's programmes out there you can use to help you make your own games.
If it's just helping others that you want to do then that's what this forum is for. Make friends with the people here, offer feedback and suggestions on all the threads asking for it. Show that you do have interesting and useful ideas. Play games and then email the designers to let them know what you liked and disliked about it and any thoughts you might have for improving them. Sign up for as many beta-tests as you can and that will allow you to be part of the game making process in a small way. Gamezebo, I know, has a beta-testing list you can sign up for, you can do searches on the web, and of course there's everyone here that's looking for beta-testers too. It's a good place to start at least.

Rusty, are you the same Rusty who posted a "shooter" concept over on Flashkit? If so, I recommend you just learn to program yourself... You can do it. Baby steps!

I remember complaining about shooter games but I don't recall posting an idea for one.
And thanks for the info HDL
