View Full Version : Looking for resource management articles/writings
Hello. It's been awhile since I posted and I hope everyone is doing well.
I am trying to find articles, writings, whatever about the design of resource management systems in games. Since "resource management" is also a term in the business and computer science worlds, my search results aren't very relevant to the query. Any help is appreciated.

I'm not quite sure what you are after here, but have you considered checking out some simulation/strategy games - I believe those could be helpful in finding out how resource management is done by others. You know, games such as Sims or WarCraft III, Railroad Tycoon, Kudos etc. I bet those can give you some hints.
Oh sure, playing some of these games has given me hints.
Take your game, Kudos. Every turn, you are managing resources. Money, friends, tiredness, boredom, confidence, etc. When you take a turn, usually a set of resources improves while another set degrades. I'm interested in reading more on the design of such a set of game mechanics. Maybe such writings exist, if so, it would be keen to read them. If not, I'll just have at it on my own and see what happens. :)
