View Full Version : help needed for the name of my game
Hi,
I'm just working on my first game. The project is called "Windboxes" on my HD. I really like that name - it fits well into the content of the game.
But since i'm from germany and english is not my mother language, i'm curious whether this title has another meaning somewhere. A google picture-search gives me the impression that a "windbox" is something used for energy generation. Heve you ever heard of it? Do you think the name could unsettle custumers because of this? Do you like the name?
Thank you !
Luis

It doesn't bring any product images or negative connotations to mind to me a native english speaker. It is perhaps a slightly aukward combination of words, Windblocks or Windcubes flows a little better in english.

How about,
Whirlwind, Hurricane, Storm Box, Breeze Blocks, Cube Box.
Darren.
@ Dan: Thank you for the help.
@ Dyno Kid: "Breeze Blocks" sounds interesting...

Hi,

What about: Windblowez! :p
what's your game about? If you tell us about it (the gameplay), we could give better suggestions.
Sorry Luis - windboxes doesn't do it for me. If I didn't know what the game as about, I might think it was a a windows utility, an educational game (a "windbag" is someone who talks too much), or possibly even a game about toilet jokes. And like Dan said, the n-d-b flow's a little awkward.
a simple but effective method i sometimes use to choose game names is this:
1) go to rhymezone.com (or similar page)
2) write down all the words related to "wind" and then "box" you'd end up with something like this:
(list a)
wind
breeze
storm
hurricane
typhoon
etc
(list b)
box
cube
rectangle
etc
(3) and then simply try out all the possible combinations. you'd be surprised at how good (and how bad) some of the results are.
It's fine, so long as you incorporate wind in to the game somehow.
Yes, I re-read my previous post and it might have appeared that I was being unreasonably negative earlier, but that's not the case. I just believe that it's worth getting the name spot-on if possible.
Er, HAS the game got anything to do with wind? I understand that it's a tetris game...
Do some brainstorming. Maybe combining the stacking concept of Tetris with Wind will result in a clever and fun original title.
