View Full Version : Can anyone recommend a scalable ISP?

I'm looking for a new ISP, and have discovered that it's a minefield! I could spend weeks at this and end up more confused than ever. I'll tell you my needs - can anyone make any suggestions?

My new ISP needs to host a 150 MB demo download that might (I hope!) be downloaded more than 1000 times in a single month. OK, realistically it probably won't be that popular at first, but I don't want the site to crash if there is an unexpected spike in interest. (The main game will be hosted elsewhere.)

The demo won't be available until December next year, and until then the bandwidth needs will be MUCH lower. Also, it's a pretty simple site, a single domain with no extra features. I'm making the game in my spare time so don't have the budget to pay for features or bandwidth that I won't use.

Any suggestions?

Forgive me for rudely replying to my own thread, but someone pointed out that I could just host the game demo at filefront.com

Filefront seems too good to be true. Does anyone have experience with Filefront? Is it a reliable way to host game demos for free?

www.dreamhost.com has a thing with 1terrabyte of bandwidth for 10 bucks a month..
so a couple of those accounts could do it.

Edit: Thanks for the recommendation. At first it also seemed too good to be true, but this discussion (http://www.mikeindustries.com/blog/archive/2006/08/the-dreamhost-meltdown) calmed my nerves. It gives a realistic view of what they offer, and I think I can live with it. I may decide to host my demo on both Filefront and Dreamhost, just to be sure.
