Hi everyone. I was wondering if you could tell me if any of these names sound interesting for a magical hatchery simulation game. I'm six weeks away from finishing the game and I'm still struggling with a good name. Here are some names I came up with:

Hatchery Tycoon
Hatchery Mogul
Hatchery Czar

Hatch-er-eek!
Enchanted Hatchery
Disenchanted Hatchery
Grimm's Marvelous Hatchery
Grimm's Fabulous Hatchery
Hatchery Magic
Arcane Hatchery

Hatchery Craze
Hatchery Attack
Hatchery Frenzy

Pet Hatchery
Hatch-a-Pet
Pet Fest

Do any of these make you want to play it? Should I avoid any names at all cost? Have a better idea?

I rather like "Arcane Hatchery". It's simple, descriptive, easy to search for and sounds bizarre. People will look at it just to find out what it is!

That was the one that caught me too. I don't think I like any of the others! Hatchery's a pretty awkward word. I think you were going down a better road with Hatch-A-Pet (which isn't too bad either, but I prefer Arcane Hatchery). "Hatch" instead of Hatchery. For instance Hatch Attack sounds a lot better than Hatchery Attack.

Gotta hatch 'em all!

(Hatchemon?)

I like "Arcane Hatchery" as well - you might make it into a nonsense yet more memorable word like "Arcanery"... which sounds like chicanery - trickery...

I don't like hatchery. How about "Fish Brood" and add a cauldron or odd shaped glass vial to the art with the logo? Arcane is good, or Elixir.

Hatch Attack is kinda catchy but depending on the gameplay might be more violent than the game calls for.

If it's all just about nurturing and raising pets, nothing violent... Enchanted Eggs? EggChantment?

I'm surprised there isn't already a color-matching egg-based game called Hatch Match. :) (Watch one show up within days of me posting this.)

don't like the word hatchery at all. reminds me of hatchets.

So what exactly is hatching? Fish or?

Why not "Magical Hatchery"? The way to go IMHO! I can see that name getting tons of clicks, being very catchy, and upbeat thus getting more sale conversions. Don't see anything in google for it. While see "Arcane Hatchery" being thought of as negative and getting less of everything overall.

I'd go Hatcherdashery... but then I'm calling my game Blobyrinth, so don't listen to me! :D

More Words (http://www.morewords.com/) is a good dictionary search tool that can help with name brainstorming. You can easily search for words that end the same (*tch or *ery), as well as some other nice features. The site's intended for Scrabble/etc word game players, but it's a good bookmark in general.

Sounds like something along the lines of dragons.

I like Hatch-a-Pet and think it'd resonate well but I also think Arcane Hatchery or Magical Hatchery may fit better to go along with your theme.

Nah, no fish involved. I've taken some advice to try and blend a cute RPG with a casual game. The goal is to hatch magical pets (dragons, gryphons) and expand your medieval kingdom. It's really quite cute! When it's ready for alpha (Dec 1), I'll post more info.

@TimS
I love that silly name! I'll toss it to my forum kids.

I like Hatch-er-eek!

Eye catching ... unique ... and search engine searchable.

I'm not sure "Hatchery" would be a good word to use in a name. Makes me think of fish or sharp knives. Here's a few brainstorms of mine.

Medieval Pet Tycoon
Enchanted Pet Tycoon
Enchanted Pets
Magical Incubator
Enchanted Incubator

No hint on the fantasy background, but damn short :)

I'm not a fan of the word Hatchery. I would try something like:
Dragon Tycoon
Dragon Eggs
Dragon Tamer
My Pet Dragon

It might not be 100% about Dragons, but I think most fantasy fans like Dragons (at least I do).

A few random ideas:

Pet Kingdom

"Lord of the Pets" or, if the player creates a female character it could use a different menu screen reading "Queen of the Pets" or something. :p

Grow A Gryphon
Dragon Daddy (if the main character is male)
Celestial Creatures
Dragon Eggs
Enchanted Eggs

[edit] Ha,Sillysoft beat me to "Dragon Eggs"

Magical Creatures
Enchanted Farm
Magical Zoo
Fantasy Creatures

just a personal oppinion... I don't like the sound of tycoons, moguls, frenzies or crazes (well except if it is a craze/frenzy type of game) if it's something more cute then no.

Grow My Dragon
Hatch Hatch
Puff Magic Dragons

Thanks so much for all of these great suggestions! I'm going to poll my fourm kids about some of them. I'll let you know what they say. :)

saw the poll... Not HatcheryDashery... that's just keraaaazy (though perhaps cute).

HatcherDashery... like a Haberdashery only with hatching. Ah well. Hope you end up with something you (and your potential customers) like!

I like Hatch-er-eek!

Eye catching ... unique ... and search engine searchable.

Would you get the same results for "Hatchereek", "Hatchereek!" "Hatch-er-eek" and "Hatch-a-eek!"?
There are spelling issues here... and hyphen ones.

Many people here seem to be linking hatcheries with hatchets. The reference to fish strikes me as strange too. The word hatchery makes me think, first and foremost, of... chickens. Chicken farms.

I like short and simple names. Arcane Hatchery is a bit long for my like. Pet Hatchery and Hatch-a-pet sounds better to me :)

Magic Hatch (simple)
Hex Hatcher (cleverer-er)

Domains available for both.

I like Hatcherdashery! It's fun and unique so you can probably get the domain too.

edit: yup, just checked. Hatcherdashery.com is available.

Amanda, may I ask more about what the game is about and the general style of gameplay to help me come up with a better name?

I've put a poll up for my forum kids. We'll see what they say. I'm going to put up random game names each week for the next month to see which ones are the most popular. So far the popular names are Grimm's Hatchery and Pet Kingdom. Tried Hatcherydashery yesterday but it didn't take. My guess is that they think the name is too cute. Here's the poll link: Amanda's poll (http://www.amaranthia.com/modules/xoopspoll/pollresults.php?poll_id=12)

@Bantam
I'll have more info about the game soon. It should be ready for alpha in four weeks. For the moment, think cute, sim, quaint village, magical pets, and lots of eggs!

It seems I've caught this thread late on (as usual), but just some random ideas:

Hatch Out
Hatch-it
Good Eggs
Angel Egg
Egg-nog (what is this stuff that americans drink? it sounds awful.)
Nutmegged

I'm here to point out the obvious.

"Hatchery"

or

"The Hatchery"

PoV, I thought about just calling it Hatchery, but I realized that if anyone googled it for help, they probably wouldn't find my site. Part of my plan is to put "hooks" in my games to make players seek out my site for hints.

Right now, it looks like Grimm's Hatchery is the most popular name with my players, so that may be the official name in the near future. :p
