Jack thompsons lawsuit against bully, a game he never played before filing suit ( this last part here tells you everything you need to know about JT) was dismissed by the judge.

Well, he lost the case but I don't think it was ever his objective to win. The more outrageous and unwinnable the claim is, the more coverage he gets and this one was a doozer.

Oh, he wants SOME credibility. You have to understand - he's a class-action lawsuit guy. An ambulance chaser of the highest order. He wants to get his foot in the door as much as possible.

If he can manipulate the government into giving any sort of legal credance to the possibility that videogames cause real-world violence / death, that opens up the floodgates for him to sue the videogame industry for any every penny it ever made. He will die a billionaire.

Yep, and just like him there are those going after the cartoons, such as the Bugs Bunny, Road Runner Hour... I swear, all those chemicals we're spewing into the air is affecting some peoples brains. We're now a two person income required society and children don't have the required parental supervision there used to be (such as when I was a tyke). We went through the phase of TV babysitters, now it's Video Game babysitters. A 12 year old and younger (and sometimes older) doesn't have the brain development or maturity required to throughly tanspire the difference between fantasy and reality. It's up to the parents to decide what their child plays in the way of PC/Video games. They need to find ways to interact with their child as well as monitor them. It shouldn't be up to lawyers and government to do the job for them. Add on the fact that many towns and cities have mistakenly eliminated many activities that were for teenagers and preteens. Whatever happened to going outside to play? It's easier for some parents to plop their child in front of computer or video console than to monitor/supervise their child outside.

In my opinion, society needs an overhaul. Our values need to be realized, children are our future, parental supervision starts at home, and for once, everyone needs to take responsibility for their actions. It's hard for a child to realize this when everything around them (politicians, corporations, etc) are neglecting this vital point.

It's become so complicated for children now, I only hope it's not too late to make and realize the changes that are needed. Blaming the video game industry is just using the political "pass the buck" routine.Teenagers that decide to hang out at a local park (and being innocent) are harassed by adults ( I know this for a fact as I used to deal with these calls). With the elimination of activities, where do adults expect them go?

(Granted, my opinion is probably nothing like others and I will probably see some interesting responses. Still, it's only my opinion. You may or may not agree with parts or even all of it)

Someone on Slashdot posted a sensible explanation of what Thompson was REALLY after: The ability to haul a game into "review" by a judge. He successfully did it here. Whether he "won" or not was actually a win for his primary motive (that no one seems to realize). Now, every time there is a game he wants to have reviewed by a judge, he'll be able to do it. He has the "precedent". He is bypassing the ESRB and creating his own little method of having game content reviewed!

Then all he needs is a conservative judge....

Interesting point, LilGames.

Interesting and frightening.
