My dog of over 14 years has died. He was slowly loosing weight for over 6 months and the experts didn't know what was causing it. They finally just chaulked it up to old age. It finally got to the point were his quality of life was no long good and he stopped drinking water. It was a very painful and hard decision to put him down but we could finally put it off no longer. He died peacefully with his family by his side.
If you have any pets in your life, please give them a hug for me.

I'm sorry, Cartman. It is amazingly cruel that our furry friends have such short lives. BTW, what was his name? Do you have any pictures?
I'm going to give me buddy an extra long walk in memory of your friend right now.
I'm sorry for your loss. I know what you are feeling because my dog died a few months ago. You have my deepest sympathies.

I feel for you and your family. It's hard to make the last visit to the vet, on one hand you know it's the right thing to to after all things you try and on the other hand it feels so wrong to do to your good ol' friend.
I've lost 3 pets in 3 years 2 from old age and one to the neighbors dog.
I think the one thing that gave me a glimpse of comfort was that they all had great lives for most of their stay on this planet. That's about the best we really can do.
Be glad that we were able to be there for them and had someone to love them all those years.
While is downright sucks that we have to have that pain, at least they didn't have to feel the pain of losing us, we were always there.
I hope you can take some comfort in that.

His name was Dillon. Here's his picture (http://www.piddlepup.com/files/dillon.jpg).
Thanks for everyone's kind words.

My deepest condolences, I still remember the day my dog was given the mercy-killing jab - it was a rainy day.
Sorry, man. I remember when my gran's german shepard died when I was a kid, and I was inconsolable. I loved it because it was the lamest dog ever - it was too much of a coward to climb steep stairs and my mum's cat beat the daylights out of it in a fight. The useless, smelly, dim-witted, loveable walking flea circus.

That a real bummer, Keith. He's an adorable little guy...
