Google released a neat little tool that allows you to chart and compare the frequency of search terms over time. I've found it interesting, plugging in a variety of terms.
Examples:
strategy games vs action games vs adventure games (http://www.google.com/trends?q=strategy+games%2C+action+games%2C+adventu re+games&ctab=0&date=all&geo=all)
flash games vs java games (http://www.google.com/trends?q=flash+games%2C+java+games&ctab=0&date=all&geo=all)
the decline of the term 'shareware' (http://www.google.com/trends?q=shareware&ctab=0&date=all&geo=all)
diner dash takes off (http://www.google.com/trends?q=diner+dash&ctab=0&date=all&geo=all)
It works best with unique terms that get a lot of traffic. Even then, the site says "It is based upon just a portion of our searches, and several approximations are used when computing your results. Please keep this in mind when using it."
